Any Blackberry people have the Note 3? Impressions?

As a former BB user who moved to Android in general. One of the main things I was lacking was the unified mailbox. So when I had email move into subfolders by exchange rules I wouldn't be notified on my phone and I'd have to go into the folder to check for new email.
I was introduced to Touchdown for Android and now I'm glad to say I'm on my 4th android device and haven't looked back

Hi, I am somewhat on same page with you. I use folders exclusively, almost all e-mails have place to go, and I use a general year folder as archive, I keep my inbox near empty, (Inbox-Zero), and Blackberry has been my friend for nearly 10 years. I watched BB grow and come to where it was with BB 7.1. I love my 9900 because it is extremely efficient and fast. If I could have a bigger screen, maybe just a few more essential apps, I would never consider any other device, including BB10.

I tried Z10, I found it a delight to use, few BB touches were still there, but sadly it was no BlackBerry (yet). I came from 9700 to Z10, then upgraded to 9900. I felt 9900 was an upgrade because Z10 was not ready, and I felt, "Why lose all the apps, if I can't keep the excellent email functionality of BB 7.1 and pay more money to get Z10?" Can you believe that when I replied to an e-mail from Z10 the replied indicator would not show up on Outlook? We use BES on 7.1 but was forced to use AS on BB10, maybe that has something to do with this, but all other devices with AS does not cause this bug. This, along with a few other limitations (Can you ever live without I, J, K, M, C, L keyboard shortcuts?!, as a filer, I couldn't live without I key".

So, long story short, here I am, trying Touchdown on a recent Android phone, it seems to work fine, but it is no blackberry. Anyone who says Touchdown covers all bases and is a true BB replacement has not fully utilized Blackberry. Same goes with BB10. I still see TD update a lot slower than BB on same Exchange server, there are shortcomings like BB would almost always know which folder a certain e-mail would go when you hit Move to Folder (it kept track of conversation and figured where the e-mail belongs) and touchdown has no compression. With 90 days of e-mails I am nearly at 500MB on internal storage, eating away capacity, device already giving me "Insufficient Capacity" error when I try to get new apps. Surely this would not be an issue with Note 3 and it's massive storage.

Well, I've got a Z10 and think the keyboard and HUB inbox are fantastic. As a new OS, BB10 dropped a lot of the features from the older OSs which made BBs BBs. There are a lot of really, really nice things about the Z10, but I'm starting to dislike the areas that are still lacking. I had a GS2 when it first came out, and it started to become awkward after awhile compared to the older BB OS I was used to. Now that Android is more mature, I'm hoping there are mods that will give me the features I want. I'm drooling over the Note 3, and I'm planning on getting it, but I want to be as fully informed as possible so my expectations are realistic!

I am also drooling over Note 3 but that size, man, that is NO phone. :) So, I am considering Galaxy S4 Active. Is the software platform pretty much same between S4 and N3?
Can you guys install your apps on SD? I was told that this option was removed from recent builds after 4.0 and that eventhough phone has SD you could only install on internal storage. Is this true?

Sorry for the lengthy reply, but you can see I feel a bit emotional when it comes to Blackberry. I still think 9900 is the best productivity device out there, and unless BB10 gets more apps, it won't get much more attention from a very small crowd of people who just do not care about the apps and can live with what's on BB World. Unless we can port/sideload more android software that's not available on BB.

I have to say that one if the things that I had always liked about BlackBerry devices was the feel of the phone in your hand. They felt sturdy and good to me the Note 3 has that same feel. It just feels good.

I left a Z10 after the speaker crapped out. Picked up the N3 2 days ago. I was a bit worried about the size but it isn't as unwieldy as I thought it would be. The battery is great on this. I'm at 65% and it has been off the charger since yesterday evening about 4.

Are you using a case/pouch for it? I've never been a fan of cases but I like the idea of flip/case that does not add any weight or bulk to the device, and of course sleep function, but I actually like the pouches better so you can keep the phone naked. Any suggestions? (this would apply to GS4 as well as N3)
Thanks.

Coming from a BB Style + Playbook of which I loved and can say that I used for literally everything (Streaming , surfing , composing, studies..anything I didn't absolutely need my desktop for...)
4th day on the Note 3 and so far I haven't felt any need to go back. The availability of apps for just about anything is awesome.
Kinda miss some of the multitasking gestures but that is slowly going away.
It's great to be down to one device and the inch lost on the Playbook is negligible.
Overall, so far I'm glad I made the switch.
It's too bad as I really did like the BB OS.
Hope this helps make your decision easier.

I picked up a cheap tpu case at Verizon till the s-views get in stores. Looking on Amazon for more...

Hello everyone
I went from z10 to note 3. First impression is I don't need all the crap features of the note. Just look at the damned thing and it buzzes. Lol

My re l issue is the contacts, additional fields. z10 has a text field I use for tons of free txt info, like her shoe size, fav wine or food stamp account number. It is essential to have this available in the same place as eh rest of the contact info. Note 3 does not have such a field, or I have missed it.

Please comment.

Thanks

You have Notes in android contacts. I keep all my contact-related info in Notes. It syncs with Exchange as well. Not in the format I add, as a text field, but is syncs. If you edit on the phone, it removes all formatting on server, which is a problem, but it at least allows me to keep "her shoe size" in my Notes field.

What do you mean it buzzes when you look at it?

Interesting thread!!

I'm a Blackberry fan and I'm really enjoying my Playbook. Back in February I bought a Z10 but I returned it when I realized it wasn't quite fully baked (and a little small for me).

Right now I am leaning very heavily towards a Note 3. I wanted to give the Z30 a chance, but the camera reviews are just average and the camera is a big thing for me.

Realistically, Blackberry still needs another year or two to perfect the device. Hopefully they still have some cash in the bank at that point and they can start to market to consumers again. Research in Motion will always get a glance from me, even when I start using the Note.

Keep us posted. What are you using right now? Still on Z10?

I got the S View Cover, but I cant figure out how to change the widgets on the front screen and have it show the weather / time all the time.

I wish I could figure out how to xfer my sms messages / remember memos fro my Q10 as well. I may just have to put it up for a loss since I sold the Q10 and need to ship it out Monday.

I am much more of a fan of this phone it seems to have group mass messaging as well.

Brace yourself ....... I'm on a feature phone!

It makes phone calls, sends texts, takes basic photos, and it's blazingly fast with a battery that lasts half a week!

When I want the internet, I use a laptop.

(This pattern should mostly change when I get the Note 3)

I moved from a BB 9900 to the Note 3 and from my Playbook to a Note 10.1. Literally the only thing I miss is the unified inbox. I've learned to live without it but damn it would be nice to have that feature on my N3. Other than that I haven't looked back in fact I couldn't imagine my life without my notes!

If you don't use Exchange/ActiveSync all e-mail apps that cost $2.99 will do just fine, I suggest you look at AquaMail and ProfiMail as well as stuff like Kaiten

I used motochopper to root a little while ago. The best tip is cloud storage is your best friend. I got g+ dropbox and copy. Good thing we have LTE.

I saw this topic a couple days ago, just haven't had a chance to respond. I was a long time BB fan, picked up the Z10 on opening day if you will. But I couldn't take the BB drama anymore or the waiting for this or that. BB solutions (Z10 & PlayBook) were also starting to not meet my business needs, it was a tough choice to finally leave but the Note 3 is far too convincing from a productivity/business standpoint especially with the additional SPen functionality . I've had the Note 3 for almost 3 weeks and I simply have no complaints, in fact all I would like to do is spout off about everything I love about the Note 3.... but that's not what you asked for!

First off some BB10 love... the Keyboard, Hub and communication things the Z10 bring to the table are fantastic, no question my biggest fear was losing functionality leaving BB10 but...

...The screen is so large on the Note 3 I'm able to two hand type just as fast as I was with my old 9900 with the full physical keyboard. Plus the keyboard also seems to be learning my language as the word prediction gets strong and stronger with each use and i'm just using the stock Samsung Keyboard. If I want to take notes even faster I can whip out the SPen write down in my chicken scratch in several of the Apps and then convert to text, again its really nice that the Note 3 gives you options and for me has provided additional functionality.

The Hub was/is probably the biggest BB10 feature and it was a bit of an adjustment to lose, especially when you have 5 email accounts and 2 Twitter accounts. But its really not the end of the world, I have my two GMail Accounts running smoothly through the GMail App and I downloaded the brand new Outlook Android App for my 3 Outlook.com accounts. The Twitter App is right beside which completes what was dumping into my Hub. All three apps work extremely well in the Android environment (special shoutout to Microsoft for there Outlook App working better on Android then anything else I've used it on!) Its all a matter of preference I guess.

IMO opinion those were the biggest Z10 features which I believe the Note 3 answered and finally really convinced a lot of business users I know to make the switch, hell just look at this thread how many BB users were attracted to this device.

Plus you get the best of Android on top of this (NO MORE SIDELOADING), an HD screen, one of the best batteries I've ever had on a device, I'm getting two days a charge with a screen this size is bonkers!

If you have any more questions give me a shout and i'll respond back.

IMO... I believe the Note 3 is the straw that broke BB's back.....

This is nice, but still not applicable to enterprise situation with Exchange running. This means, if you have 3 or 4 email accounts in total, broken down as something like: 1 work on exchange, 1 or 2 on gmail and 1 or 2 on hotmail and got forbid another personal one maybe yahoo, etc, you will need 4 apps to read all 4 e-mails and access features in full? Because stock email app is just terrible, we all know that, unless Samsung whipped up some nice email app for Note 3 specially?

Enterprise accounts alone is worth keeping something like a BB around, I am trying Touchdown and also ProfiMail, they are both nice, but just doesn't feel right.

I agree the Hub is a wonderful feature. I haven't tried a universal Hub type application on Android yet. I guess the point is i'm getting all my information in three really good apps. I've adjusted to handling my information in a different matter and I really haven't lost productivity, plus I have gained a ton more functionality I could never get in the current BB10 environment. But that's just my ten cents others might have different stories/experiences!
