I sent in my S23 ultra and this is the message I received:

Why will you be charged?
Your trade-in did not meet our requirements because:

You did not disable your personal security locks, the Factory Reset Protection or Activation Lock.

Your trade-in device information provided during purchase:

Trade-In Discount
Price: $600.00
Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G

Does the device turn on?
The device must start up to the home screen and function normally

Will you factory reset your device before you ship it?
You must factory reset to remove all personal data from your device.

Is your device free of cracks?
The screen, body and camera lenses, are free of cracks.

Ensure the device is not on a banned list.

You have options:
· Accept the charge for your change in trade-in credit value, $600.00.
· Request your Galaxy S23 Ultra 256GB be returned for free, subject to certain conditions, and accept a charge for the full trade-in credit,
$600.00, received during purchase.

I did not know of those locks and reset protection. Did you all know this?
And if you got a reject like this, what did you do?
Thanks in advance....

In cases like this, maybe Samsung could offer to send it back to you and have you do the reset right. The customer would have to pay shipping IMO, but at least let the customer correct the issue. It's not like it's physical damage, it can be corrected.

Yeah a factory reset would erase it all once it rebooted back to the welcome. Odd.

I sold a phone one time that was reset to factory and the buyer was not able to get on it because it was asking for a password while they were trying to set it up. Turned out, it was still tied to my google account.

From samsung, "Important: Before trading in your phone, make sure to remove all personal information and accounts, and perform a factory reset."

I don't think so. Was that a requirement somehow? It never used to be a necessity so I just did the factory reset. A couple of times, actually.
Each time, did you see a welcome screen and prompts to set up the device as you see when you get a new phone?

Odd that you would go through all the prompts to factory reset again?

If you didn't see the welcome screen then it didn't factory reset.

If you factory reset in recovery then it was done wrong , you would need to do the factory reset in settings

To be safe I always recover twice before I trade in. Because if there is still anything linked to it you'll find out quick. Just go through welcome, skip through everything quick and if you get to the home screen without issue I recover again and can shut down.

I believe I reset in recovery: powering down, holding power and lower volume keys and then scrolling down.
I didn't know there would be a difference with the factory reset in settings. I never used the settings option before.

Yeah those steps are recovery unfortunately, going forward always do in the settings.

Now the issue at hand is to try calling Samsung and say you can properly reset it and see what they say

Yeah I always do the recover within the phone. I think when you do it that way it asks for all your Samsung password so that it can sign out of any accounts before erasing so that nothing it tied to the phone.

The other way if you erase a phone when you are going through setup it will see you had a Samsung account tied to the phone and require you to put in a password to continue.

That's how they keep thieves from being able to use a stolen phone... they can wipe the phone but then they can't get past the Samsung account if they don't have it.

I would think they should be able to ship it back to you just like when they tell people they're not going to give the money they promised because of the condition of a phone they usually give you the option to get it shipped back. I would also tell them that you're going to start the return process on the phone as soon as they ship your phone back.

edit. nvm. just googled and search seems to say that Samsung will give you the option to have your trade-in returned if inspection finds that it does not meet the promised condition... it's been a while since I've traded in a Samsung. Still holding on to my S22U and S23U.

Thank you all for your speedy responses. I will do my best to get a hold of someone at Samsung, and hopefully get the opportunity to correct. Otherwise, I'll have a phone for sale:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
