any ideas how to shut off the voice that says you have a text from so and so in the car dock

Check to see if you have a Smart Action set up with an action of "Announce calls and texts". If you do, disable it if you don't want to hear this information.

Nope no smart actions. Was one of first things I checked

Beats me. I see a Caller ID readout setting under the dialer app or under accessibility, but nothing comparable for the text messaging app.

Seems like it's an issue with some android. It's nothing major. Irritating but not major
