Is there any known information about what will come with the 2.2 update?

Supposedly FM radio for the Nexus One, automatic app updating, more freed up RAM, multicolor trackball notifications for the Nexus One, Flash 10.1 support (though I suspect it'll be like what WebOS got, support for it months ago, but it's not actually released yet), and a few other little things like performance enhancements.

Well for us Eris users we are still waiting on 2.1 soo if 2.2 comes out for othe phones before we get 2.1 I will be extremely angry.

You know Android needs? System-wide copy and paste. Let's face it: copy and paste is (almost) non-existent on Android. Give us something like the iPhone's. That works extremely well. Come on, Google, surprise us at I/O!

It will be coming for the Droid, I'm sure. Seeing as the Droid is still about #3 in terms of performance, and #1 in terms of userbase (I think), the Droid should be near the top of update lists for the near future.
When we do get it, we should get pretty much everything provided, unless of course there are things the Droid's hardware is unable to provide, like FM radio.

Yeah. I've read a news regarding that. And I think wifi tethering is coming in froyo. And today is google IO and a froyo update for my N1.

Features of Android 2.2


1. Speed
The Dalvik Virtual Machine has been improved and will now use the Just In Time compiler (JIT). this translates apps into a machine code that's better read and faster by the VM. This will give a 200% to 500% increase in the applications speed.


2. New APIs and services
2.2 will offer Cloud to device messaging. The example given was a user looking up a location at Google maps on a pc, and pushing the location to the device where it was opened in maps with a link to turn by turn directions. Droooool

All apps and their settings are able to be backed up and restored to another handset.

Apps can be stored on the SD card. If a developer chooses, he can have the application stored on the SD card in an encrypted format. This can be cycled on and off by the end user with one click.

WiFi hotspot - don't expect your carrier to allow this one for free.

Support for Adobe Flash 10.1 and Adobe Air. Flash 10.1 beta is included

Improved Exchange server support

Application errors can now be reported directly to the developer through the app.

V8 JavaScript engine support. This new JavaScript engine will make webpages that use js to load and run 2-3 times faster. Google went on record saying the 2.2 browser will be the fastest mobile browser ever.

You can wirelessly stream music from your phone to your computer.

Improved Bluetooth support, including Bluetooth dialing

3. Market updates
You will be able to auto-update any app via a checkbox in the apps market page. If the app's permissions have changed, this setting will be overridden so the user can check the new permissions.

You will be able to select to update all your apps that have an update available. Again, if permissions have changed, this will still require user intervention.

DRM free music will be available for sale in the Android Market.


Official word from HTC:

if your phone was launched this year, we will most likely offer an upgrade for it to the Froyo version. This includes popular models like the Desire and Droid Incredible as well as hotly anticipated phones like the Evo 4G, MyTouch slide and upcoming models. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades. We are working closely with Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to everything we need to provide a complete and solid Sense experience on Froyo. We expect to release all updates in the second half of this year but can't be more specific yet.

No official word from other manufacturers yet.
