Any news on honeycomb?

The long-awaited Honeycomb update just completely crippled my Flyer, so let that be a warning to all...

The update to mine went really smooth. I haven't had a chance to kick the tires yet, but it's running fine.

Glad to see an update but I still gotta wait for a ROM based on the official update :(

Ok, so at some point one of us can post bragging rights over their opinion :) For me HC's benefit to the Flyer is apps that will not run on GB, specifically pen apps. I agree the Flyer works fine on GB but leaves no room for growth.

I Just Want a Device to be Productive

Yep...that would be....ME!! (I'm not going to update though...lol):p

The first time I opened Pocket Informant under Honeycomb, I was sold. MUCH better user interface there. Google Music offers a similar better viewing. To be honest, I don't see the loss of the fixed buttons as much of a loss, considering much more can be done on the screen. To me the slight loss of screen real estate to the button bar isn't a big deal at all, tho I realize that's going to be a personal preference thing.
I really like how the pen can now be used to navigate. It's a lot less cludgy, not having to switch to a finger to navigate if the pen is already in your hand.

For HalizDad....there is really no reason for you to update I think. You use the Flyer mostly for a Reader and to Browse the Internet from what I've gathered from your comments. The first thing you'll notice on this HC OTA.....is that the rich Sense Overlay is no longer there. Things like the endless Carousel that lets you flip through the 7 Homepages are now gone. You are back to a Phone-like 5 pages that move side to side....but no longer rotate. I miss the Carousel....but there are Launchers that offer that feature and I'm Happy with the Trade-off.

I've had zero issues so far and am LOVING how the Pen works now. So many Apps have come alive that I feel I need to spend the next week exploring and learning the Flyer all over again. To that end.....after recently Factory Resetting my Dinc and really liking the jump in performance, I backed up all my photos, songs and pertinent files to my PC Hard Drive and Factory Reset my Flyer before updating it.

I have reloaded about half of my previous Apps back on to the Flyer and am going through them one by one.....learning what the Pen will now do in each one. Sketchbook Pro works GREAT! I am a Happy Man.....D

If I used the pen, I'd consider HC, but yes, mine is used as an ereader, mp3 player, porn viewer ...

Bought the pen, did the update...not bad. Not great, but not bad. Works hella better than the 10" galaxy tab I tried when they came out.

Wait a sec... Mr. I'm not gonna update, DID the update?!! ;)

I did the same here, wasn't planning on updating but changed my mind due to the pen.

All of the painting apps I have tried on HC are so much better with the pen. On GB all you could do was take a screen-shot and use the limited brush and color options that were built in. Now you can use the pen everywhere!

The Quill app is especially nice for note taking, the "fountain pen" brush is pressure sensitive as well, really nice. Also it ignores touch input in the writing area so where you rest your hand doesn't mark up the page.

Well I'm pleasantly surprised to say I'm an HC convert, (at least on the Flyer). :D

I've never been able to pass up an update, or a ROM...but I held out longer on this one than ever before...Made it 2-3 days. If I hadn't bought the pen, I'd still be on GB, but after playing with a friends Flyer who had updated, it wasn't bad. Not like the other HC's I've messed with.

Anyone noticing that Honeycomb tablet apps wont work on it? When I go to download them from the market they say not compatable?

I haven't seen that yet. What are some of the apps that you've had trouble with? I'd like to see if I get the same results.

Still no update available for mine. I want my HC!

Iceman try this. Save All your important data to your Computer via the Hard Drive option once you're connected. I used Windows Explorer to save Pics, Music and Files I did not want to risk.

Remove any Launchers from your Flyer ....such as Launcher Pro etc. These do not seem to play well with HTC.

Factory reset your Flyer by 1 Turning it completely off. 2 Restarting it by holding BOTH the Power Button and the Volume Down Button simultaneously. It will take 20-30 seconds and seem like a long time. 3 Then, you will see the option for "Factory Reset" in small letters along with other options. Scroll to it using the Volume Key....and choose it using the Power Button.

When your Flyer Resets....you will have a "Like New" machine.....and your Update should pop up during recovery.

Afterwards....any paid Apps will be available again in the Market (now in HC form) under "My Apps"

This should do the trick....and I recommend a Factory Reset before the Update anyway to guard against some of the problems we've been seeing with other Flyers.

This is how I Upgraded my Flyer....there is more info available on Resetting your Flyer in Forums like XDA if you are uncomfortable. Good Luck....D

That's for damn sure!! I had GO Launcher on my HC Flyer (a ROM cooked with the official update) and it would freeze while charging.

I'll give that at try. I do a manual check all the time and nothing. I will do the factory reset tonight and see if that works. Thanks!

ok well that didn't work. Could be because my Flyer is rooted! Had no idea. It comes up saying "revolutionary". Problem is I can restore defaults because they are not on the SD card I have. I got this from Best Buy, last one in Utah. Was a customer return. I've done two factory resets now and still no HC update available.

No Worries...at least we know WHY your Flyer wasn't Updating. Rooted Devices won't update via the OTA. Having said that....you've come to the proverbial Fork in the Road. You can either 1 Revert your Flyer back to Stock and install the Update.....or 2 Flash an HC Rom like "Fly Honey" onto your Rooted Flyer. You can find Directions for either method over at XDA Developers Forum. They are Very Helpful, Thorough and Knowledgeable concerning all things Android.

There is a "Flyer Section" over there or you can simply Google "Fly Honey Rom" and the links will take you there. So....you have a little more work to do....but now you know why you weren't getting the OTA. Good Luck....D
