so lots of chatter from google and i see samsung saying they will step up their game offering monthly security updates for their respective phones but I havent seen anything from moto. Any twitter or google+ posts from moto about this?

Being an owner of a 2014 pure edition moto x i had hoped that moto would have something or at least be talking about their plans for the pure owners.

LG just announced they will start to do it as well. Considering how poorly they handled the 5.1 update for many of their devices I wonder if they even have the resources to do something like this although if Google is making their own security updates it shouldn't be too hard for Motorola to use that for their nearly stock devices. I guess we will find out soon enough.

I guess we sorta have an answer that "they are working on it". Not terribly encouraging when Samsung has already made patches for their past 18 months of flagships some of which have already been distributed via carriers (AT&T and Sprint).

Nevermind, looks like they changed their mind or Droid Life got more information. Security updates will start next week. Maybe they can use it as an excuse to finally get VoLTE working on the Verizon Moto X (2014) but that might just be wishful thinking.

I just pulled my phone out of my pocket and it was "optimizing apps". I'm with Verizon and was already on 5.1. Just wandering if they pushed the security update?

Is it really smart of them to jump on the bandwagon without thinking this through just a little... not to mention the extra hours of testing that they will have to do. Google and Samsung have money they don't know what to do with. Give Motorola some time... I'm sure they will make security updates when they need to.

fatboy and others. thanks for the comments. I my opinion moto needs to offer these security updates and actually distribute them on a regular basis. Now granted the media has blown the android exploits out of proportion and they do love giving them fancy names too but with real exploit code in the wild for stage fright i need to see moto update my (unlocked and pure edition) phone at least within a month. Anything longer is really not acceptable if google, samsung and LG push their updates within the month time frame. I love my moto x but if moto drags their feet on this then for me its another reason to pick the next nexus as my new phone or heaven forbid go back to apple and ios. cheers. Doug
