As a recent convert from the Palm Pre to the Epic i have been still keeping an eye on palm to see what the next phone from them would be. well it seems that the "new" phone from them is the Pre2. heres the link: http://www.webosnation.com/palm-pre-2-photos-leak-out

I was kind of worried that Palm would come out with an awesome phone right after i switched to the epic but the pre2 and its small upgrades over the pre just make me feel even better about my choice to switch.

any palm pre converts out there actually considering switching back to get this phone or excited the tiniest bit about?

Recent convert myself and I wouldn't switch back for the pre2. Now if it had been epic or evo level hardware, I would have to seriously consider it, but its too late now.

I agree, if this is the Pre's successor, I too am glad to have made the switch to the Epic. The specs are rather underwhelming.

Well, I'm still under the impression that a "superphone" is on the way, alongside this Pre2 and possibly a pixi 2. If you recall, they had logs for a Roadrunner (presumably the Pre2, same res) and a Roadrunner HD (double res), so I'm sure HP/Palm still have a few surprises up their sleeve.

In all honesty, I am considering getting the Pre2 just because I love webOS, but I doubt I would switch permanently as the Epic hits the sweet spot for the size a device should be.

I, like you, made the switch from the Pre to the Epic. If that is truly the "Pre 2", I must say I am very disappointed. I was a launch-week Pre person and I must say I love WebOS for all of its potential; but HP is falling way behind in hardware. Slick OS with under-achieving hardware.

I am so glad I didn't wait for the pre 2. When that phone is released it is going to be a year behind on the specs. Some of the palmites over there think its the best thing ever... They are acting like applebois. Same shell, screen is too small, same small battery same wobbly Oreo slider. And processor and ram that phones have been releasing since Q1/Q2 of 2010. So glad I did not wait.

Recent (this weekend) convert here (except I have the Galaxy S Vibrant) and I gotta say I'm seriously underwhelmed by the Pre 2 (and I am 'bout as close as they come to webOS lovers.)

I'll keep watching PreCentral. I'm really interested in the Broadway and Mansions as well as that elusive Roadrunner HD because the plain roadrunner (Pre 2) is not worth jumping back over for.

I haven't switched yet.....we are going to add a line to our account for our daughter (for Christmas), and I'm going to give her my phone (Pre), and I'm going to take the new phone....(we will have the new line be the premier line, so it'll be eligible for upgrade in a year)

I've been playing around with Evo and Epic, and I have definitely decided on the Epic......

I saw the Pre2 pics, and it's not going to keep me with the Pre....I love the Pre, but I'm not that loyal!! I'll switch to Android, get better apps, a better phone, etc.....if they come out with a new phone that can compete with the Epic, I can always use my premier status upgrade in a year to switch back at that time....but in my opinion, The Pre has a LOT of catching up to do!!!!

Welcome to the dark side, seems like most Epic owners are former pre owners. WebOS had some nice features for sure, but I didn't know what i was missing. I also had no faith in HP/Palm and the pre2 is actually less then I had expected and I didn't expect alot.

uh, yeah, apparently they didn't get the memo that their hardware is crap. My gf, unfortunately for her, still has a pre. Screws fell out of it the other day. Do I have any faith that this would be any different? no. I, personally, can't wait to see the horror stories that come out on the hardware for this device. The slider mechanism doesn't make any sense. Its curved, but they use straight parts... no wonder crap falls out of the device and it wobbles like crazy. I'm so glad I ditched the Pre almost a year ago (had 5 by this time last year).

Have the Pre 2 camera specs been mentioned?

I just made the switch from Pre to Epic last week. I'm curious how the Pre 2will perform especially when it is overclocked. But I don't think its enough to win me back. There are several aspects of webOS that I miss, but there are some aspects of Android that are great too. I'm glad I'm getting a real taste each OS. I figure a year on each platform isn't a bad idea.

I'm a 2 weeks switcher and and I will go back to Palm as soon as they bring out a worthy phone. So far, I like the fact that my Epic 4G works fine (not even rating great just yet) but for Android.... I'm so disappointed.

I was considering waiting for the new hardware from Palm, but I'm so glad I pulled the trigger on my Epic. That "new" Pre is an embarrassment! I had my Pre running 1Ghz with the overclock, so it is essentially a non-event. I do miss the webOS, for some things, but honestly I love carrying my new Epic around with me. Just so many things it can do!
I'm on my 3rd already, with the first having a horrible call quality, and the second an unstable slideout. This newest one is juuust right.
Now a little FROYO, please.

I converted a little over a month ago. No regrets so far. Android, though not as elegant as WebOS, has more or less won me over and is pretty simple to use. I love the hardware and screen on the Epic. And, of course, the apps. Rooting this thing is a pain in the ***, though. I still haven't done it successfully. Anyways, I basically got tired of waiting for a new Palm device while my Pre was falling apart. I had a lot of high hopes for it and especially WebOS, but Palm really bungled it.

As for the Pre 2, first off, its specs aren't much different than any other high end device out there right now. The Evo, Epic, Droid X, Nexus One, and iPhone 4 all have a 1gig processors and 512MB RAM. I was reading that the higher end dual-core processors won't even be sold until the middle of next year. So, the CPU specs aren't much different to what we see now. The screen size, lack of front camera, keyboard, form factor, same battery, etc. are big disappointments, however. I really, really want Palm to succeed, but it's not going to do it if it keeps playing the same game. If you go over to PreCentral , there's a palpable sense of disappointment, even if all of them won't admit it.

are you kidding me? i dont think that even the pre 8 will get anyware close to the epic's quality

I liked my Pre, but replacing my Pre twice and having my third have the same problem my second one had pushed me to getting the Epic. I saw the report on my Engadget widget on my Epic ironically enough, the Pre 2's hardware will be outdated when it launches, and I'm sure the following Palm sequel (a REAL sequel, not a joke of one like the Palm Pre Plus) will be another long, frustrating wait all over again.

The things I do miss about the Pre is more the community and the homebrew. But the Android community is very helpful and the apps in the Android Market more than make up for what I don't have on the Pre. I've had a Pre and a Treo, and liked them both, and I hope Palm has success with WebOS, because it has great potential...I'm just much happier with Android all the way around.

The design is basically the same so no dice.. Palm/HP would have to totally redesign the pre.. Bigger screen, better hardware better keyboard..

I am satisfied with Android.
When WebOs comes out in a tablet I will probably get it.

When HP gets it together and actually releases a real Pre successor with a real redesign to webOS (make it look much crisper, modern, and improved) then we can actually consider.

Way to disappoint the way Palm did

Today's Palm is a sad shell of what it once was.

Epic FTW..and I like Android better than WebOS (mostly). Except for the calendar and notifications. :(
