Look in the settings. Maybe if you do what he says, and you don't check manually for update, you won't ever see a notification?
I am checking all the time xD and I am litte bit annoyed that Samsung can't push updates even for security patch. I am still on October. Feels like I will jump directly to the Oreo.

I have both the Note 8 and Pixel 2 XL and the subtle improvements in Oreo are keeping me from going back to the Note 8 for now. Those improvements may not mean a lot to some but I like them...for example, the nicer looking notifications, especially for media...

Other things I like are notification "dots", battery life is a tad better, auto-enable Wi-Fi, picture in picture (especially with Google Maps), App Shortcuts (think 3D Touch) is better in 8.1 than it ever was with 7x and TouchWiz.

These are enough to keep me on the Pixel for now until the Note 8 gets 8.1...it is going to be awesome on the Note 8.

Yeah those dark notification colors sure go well with that hideous white quick settings tab. Does 8.1 not have a black theme yet?

Not that bothered about software updates etc they'll come in time and like a few in here would rather they be properly tested first, my main gripe is security patches! I'm hoping they've sorted it as I was on August Security patch a few weeks ago but in last fortnight two updates have brought me back upto date to the January patch so I'm hoping this continues.

Major updates I understand security updates there really is no excuse

Re: Any update on Oreo?

You could just turn off automatic updates and then bother with it.
Can't do that on Verizon. Pretty sure you can't on most, if not all other carriers as well. Unless you are talking about apps which is an entirely different thing, or rooting. Please enlighten us as to with what you are referring to.

I'm more interested in security updates than OS. OS updates are still important though. I like Samsung's additions to Android Oreo. There are many YouTube videos of the beta and it looks great.

Thank you, I was pretty sure that was not possible without rooting. I'm still waiting for the how to do it without rooting answer.

Till that i am satisfied with 7.1 style notifications

Im with EE. Can't see mine getting it before my N9 arrives. Carriers here incredibly poor with updates.

That said, I don't really care. Runs like a dream on Nugut.
