Anybody going to root to beat gb ota?

I was considering it knowing it will only get harder once we get the gb

I am still thinking about doing it. One good thing is we have about a year left before we even get gb

I haven't heard about the future gb update making it harder to root until now. Why would it be harder? Do you have a link to something talking about it? Thanks.

I rooted about a week ago and haven't looked back. It's actually a lot simpler then people make it sound, and you pick up on the whole flashing thing very quickly. I have dasBAMF 1.8.6 Remix installed and it's basically like being stock, w/out the OTA's

I've been flashing new GB ROMs for a while now... there are some very good ROMs out there now!!!

the current method of rooting (which was very difficult to attain according to those who figured it out) exploits basically a security flaw of some sort, so the rumor (maybe it's for certain i really dont know) is that htc has eliminated this flaw in their gingerbread build. if that's so, you can presume it will be even harder to work out a new way to get root after the gb update.

btw, for those who wish to root, i have to suggest reading ALOT before you do it, to try to get comfortable with the steps involved with rooting as well as making nandroid backups, flashing roms, and light troubleshooting, so you don't * up your phones.

I rooted last week due to the mr2 update disabling Skype. Had been on the fence for a while. It was quick, relatively simple, and the best thing I have done. Gb has some neat little features that make it is worthwhile process. Running infuse theory, and love it. Honestly, I don't know why I waited!

Rooted two weeks ago and I'm running a ROM with the 2.3.5 GB. Love it. Haven't looked back once.

I'm surprised htc would do that seeing as they are unlocking the bootloaders on their newer phones now. Either way I'm going to root my new refurb soon, I can't stand the bloatware or the dumb recent apps on the pulldown menu or the ota update trying to push automatically or... you get the idea lol

First and foremost, if you're one of the people sitting on the fence while you're reading this post, I highly recommend reading this:

That's pretty much right on the money.

In the thread I linked to above, I actually posted the twitter link from when this information became public. Incredible 2 users are already having to deal with this. Jcase is a pretty well known and well trusted developer, who usually has the type of access it would take to know this information to be true.

I'm surprised htc would do that seeing as they are unlocking the bootloaders on their newer phones now.

A security exploit is still a security exploit. It's good practice to patch it, even if thus far we've only been this exploit to perform a function and place our phones in a state that HTC has claimed they will be shipping all future phones. It isn't about stopping us from rooting...it's about patching a security flaw.

Unfortunately, we don't know any other way to unlock the Thunderbolt's bootloader...which is why applying the GB update will prevent you from rooting your device in the future.

Thanks for your explanations paint. I was going to wait for the official release of gb for the bolt before I rooted again but it looks like I won't any longer. I'll just stay away from the unofficial mr2 radio this time.

My next question is kinda off topic. I'm going to root again but am wondering if flashing the offical mr2 radio (rooted version) versus the unofficial mr2 will get rid of the free mobile hotspot. Or doesn't it matter since i'll be rooted.

If the ROM supports the hotspot app it should work with whatever compatible radio, just make sure the app works with your ROM and you should be ok.

Yeah, I believe the hospital is more of a software issue, and not dependant on radio version.

EDIT: Obviously, I meant "hot spot"... that's what I get for posting from my phone!

Well once you get gingerbread it is game over unless some exploit gets found. Look what recently happened to some htc evo users. Now it seems HTC is offering a method to unlock your boot loader soon but youj basically have to sign away your warranty.

May ask the best way to root the thunderbolt? Tired of waiting. For the stock version. After one step z4rooting of my x I hope to do so with my TB.

Please advise. Thanks!

I can tell you the best place to look is in the sticky forum on rooting and roms. I've done a lot of reading there and it verges on TOO much information...which in this case is a GOOD thing.

I was just curious if folks felt "under the gun" to root now for fear we won't be able to later.

I would love it if htc offered an "official" way to unlock the bootloader and I don't think they should be expected to service phones bricked by users. On the other hand if an electronic failure (like led's break or screen wont turn on) I think they should honor the warranty (although I know they don't).

Dell must envy the ability to void a warranty because a user messes up the operating system!

Everything you need is in the stickies on top of the page for rooting, roms and hacks.
This is the closest thing to z4root that you will find for the Bolt. Its not a one click... Its more of a 4-5 click but its the best auto root program. There are also two more stickies.. one for manually rooting using ADB for Windows and another for Mac.

I just rooted my bolt 2 days ago installed DAS BAMF with sense 3.0 and couldn't be happier. I knew the bolt wasn't going to get sense 3.0 so I decided to go that way and on top finally getting gingerbread. So basically if any1 still undecided give rooting a try... Couldn't be happier I mean my bolt looks really sexy with gb and sense 3.0
