Anybody going to root to beat gb ota?

I've kinda pondered on rooting, but I've ultimately never gone through with it, partially because I don't do a lot of "hacking" stuff, so I'd be too worried I'd screw up my phone. On top of that, I'm not really unhappy with anything about my phone, as it is, so I really don't know that rooting would have much benefit for me.

Anyway, the most recent updates (about the GB update being on hold "indefinitely") have made it sound like the Thunderbolt may not get Gingerbread at all, anymore. So who knows?

I'm on the fence about rooting my thunderbolt and would like to know afew things from those who made the jump. I've always had problems with the data connection randomly dropping out before and after the updates and whether it's when using the Mobile Hot Spot feature or tethered with USB. Has anyone had this issue and it was solved after they rooted there phone? If so, which ROM are you using? And before I journey into the Root and Rom forums, I'm aware that the Verizon updates will no longer be pushed or notify me they are available, what about the installed apps through andriod/amazon market? And if I were to back it up with the recommended software, if I decide to go back to the previous (verizon) ROM, is it completely reversible? Thanks in advance.

Actually HTC reps earlier this week said GB would be out this quarter so take that for what its worth.

there was a new gb leak a few weeks ago - not sure if you guys have been talking about it over here - available with root from themikmik.com - it's awesome, and fairly stable, which i would assume means that there is a gb update coming our way OTA in the near future.

Use Wireless Tether The newest release is working very well for me on Gingeritis 3D. You have to configure the settings to match HTC, and select Thunderbolt profile.

Official updates will be available for rooted users days or even weeks before the masses will receive the update. A basic debloated ROM based on the update will be avaialable soon thereafter, and full blown custom ROMS after that.

All of your apps will work and update just as they would on stock ROM. You can use MyBackup to save app data, text messages, etc. Just make sure you don't backup/restore system data to a new ROM. Rooting also gives you access to applications like Titanium backup, Set CPU, ROM Manager, etc.

If you wanted for whatever reason you can go back to the stock ROM.

If you're serious about rooting, then you need to invest some time and do some reading. I'd recommend these guides as must reads for anyone interested in the whole process:

It's essential to pay close attention to what you're doing and make sure you follow directions exactly. If you don't then that's when you'll run into problems. If you're unsure about something, ask a question before you do it. Good luck
