Anyone else decided in advance NOT getting the Note 8?

I'm in this camp. I'm still rocking my Galaxy S5 and will probably update to the S9. A couple of reasons for this.

I really like a front FPS and as the Note 8 looks unlikely to have the much awaited embedded scanner, a rear scanner is not something I want. The S5 was the first Galaxy phone to have a fingerprint scanner. I have loved it and it works really well, despite the rubbish you read on the reviews. I really want to have Sammy's first phone with the embedded scanner.

The battery capacity will apparently be 3300 mah. This is a bit smaller than the S8 plus whilst having a slightly bigger screen. I'm betting the S9 will again have 2 sizes with the larger size having at least 3500 mah if not better battery capacity.

Bixby is something I really look forward to but is as yet not sorted and finalised. I'd rather wait a bit longer and have Bixby all properly up and running.

What I really do like about the Note 8 is 6 GB of RAM and the dual cameras. Those features on their own aren't enough for me to retire my still well working S5. I'm not knocking the upcoming Note 8, it's just that I've decided that one more flagship Galaxy device should see me getting all the features I want to keep for another 3-4 years.

What say you?

If you can afford to wait, waiting is a good thing. To me the S5 was one of the worst devices of the last few years, so I'd be itching to get away from it, but if yours is awesome for you, then keep rocking it IMO. The FPS moving is something I have no real interest in. I don't like next to the camera on the back, but I've never liked one on the front either and I have a feeling we're not going to like the final product. Battery capacity doesn't matter to me at all, only battery life matters. Bixby is useless garbage, that'll not change so I'm not in a hurry to wait for a more polished version of it on a different device. So your list of complaints about the 8, none of them would dissuade me from getting the Note 8. If you really use devices for 3-4 years though, waiting for the one that truly tops out your wish list is a smart move.

Lots of people like to play with the best of both worlds.

Yeah. After sending the note7 back I chose the iPhone 7 plus but didn't like it so gave it to my fiance and he loves it. I ended up going with the lg v20 and it's a good phone but miss Samsung so went back to my note 5. Which has been awesome to me. I'm so waiting for the note 8 to come out. I'm not letting predictions effect my decision. I'll wait for Samsung and only Samsung to announce the note 8. If I don't like the note 8 which I most likely will since always been note fan, I'll get the s8+ or wait for note 9.

I too have the s8 Plus and the iPhone 7 Plus. No way would I give up my S8+....but as FireDept10 stated....prolly will sell my 7 Plus, and get it, if the Note 8 is worth it.

Yeah, I'm a bit of the odd one out. So many people upgrade ever year and many others that don't only because they can't afford it. I can afford a new phone ever year but choose not to.

The reason is because when I do change phones, I really want to have that WOW factor. I can't see how people are enthused or wowed over their new, expensive flagship phones when they upgrade every year. The upgraded features are incremental most of the time year to year.

However, coming from an S5, (which I am still happy with), when I do upgrade, the upgrade will be HUGE. I will be going from full HD to greater than quad HD and adjustable resolution, almost full screen display with minimal bezels, much improved dual lens photography and OIS videography and 4 times the resolution off the front camera, triple the RAM, far improved processor plus brand new features like an embedded FPS, iris scanner, Bixby, dual connect Bluetooth, DEX and others. So for me, waiting 3 yrs plus to upgrade from S5 will really impress and wow me.

But each to their own.

I like the way you think.

Galaxy Note 8 vs Galaxy S8 Plus (Disappointing Leaks)

Hi

I am currently using a Galaxy S7 and I am planning to get a new phone this year. I really want to try out the S Pen so I patiently waited for the Note 8 but these leaks are disappointing.

Battery:
I know that Samsung is trying to play safe after all that battery issue but if the battery is 3300 mAH which is smaller than the S8 Plus. I don't really know if the Note 8 is worth it. Obviously the new Snapdragon 835 might show a huge improvement in battery life since I am using the Galaxy S7 Snapdragon model. However, I wish the Note 8 would be at least 3600mAH. HOPEFULLY!

Fingerprint:
The new S8 fingerprint placement is extremely weird for me. It is pretty awkward. Even though we can use the IRIS scanner, I still prefer a fingerprint scanner in the front. I heard that the Note 8 fingerprint scanner to be placed underneath the screen has been cancelled. Hopefully this is not true.

The other parts about the leaks I am happy out. Obviously, it is very wrong for me to compare the Galaxy S8 Plus with the Note 8 since the S Pen takes a huge role in the Note 8 but I wish the spec would be better than the S8 Plus at least.

What do you think?

Do you think the Note 8 is worth the money if it has a smaller battery and a similar placement of the fingerprint or should I just skip this year and wait for Galaxy S9.

Re: Galaxy Note 8 vs Galaxy S8 Plus (Disappointing Leaks)

I would never base my decision on speculation. I have the S8 Plus and am very pleased with it. But I am anxiously awaity to see what the Note 8 brings. Have you possibly consider the S8 Plus at all? Base your decision on Samsung announcement of the Note. If you don't like it consider something else. Thanks!

I will most likely stick with my S8+. Samsung has made the Note less of a "WOW" device for me. If anything the only rumor that has me excited is the dual cameras which I enjoyed a ton on the LG G6. Other than that ... It is just a (usually) bigger Galaxy phone with a pen/software tweaks.

The Latest Render at the Galaxy Note 8 paints an ugly Picture!

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is perhaps the most anticipated phone still to come this year, but information on the handset is thin on the ground. So much so that we’re only now seeing renders of it, and if they’re accurate it doesn’t look good.

I put 0% faith in this being close to actual.

That bump on the back -- if that's even remotely true...

Ugh. :-/

If the render is not official, not seeing the value in relation to the Note 8. Non sequitor IMO.

The Note 8 might be a relative sales disappointment

Prior to the 8+, the Note 4 and Note 7 IMO were the greatest devices created, so this assertion is coming from a Note fan. Here are my reasons that combined, might make the Note 8 a relative sales disappointment (not a failure).

No ranking of the weight of each point, but some are a lot less weight for the combination.

1. Note 7 issues
2. Price
3. Display ratio. Professionals that use the pen tend to use in portrait mode. The display ratio and more pronounced curve would make the device less practical writing in portrait mode.
4. Smaller battery than 8+ (if true)
5. Minus the pen and updated camera, not much apparent differentiation from the already great 8+.

JMO, but so far not seeing much to inspire super huge sales numbers, since seems not big jump from 8+. I would have been swayed more if also had wider ratio and stereo speakers :)

Re: The Note 8 might be a relative sales disappointment

I agree. Stereo speakers and 16/9 ratio would have been great. If you want to build it for professionals make it flat too. It would have really allowed consumers to tell Samsung what direction we'd like their phones to go. Samsung would rather tell US what we should want.

The "Bold Text" in the quote above reminds me of the LARGE German Electronics Firm that I spent twenty five years working for - same attitude. The following text is me trying to emulate an accent "Eeet moost be zees vey!" But then, they kept on selling so hey... who am I? Maybe Samsung is onto something!!! :-)

And please, no disrespect meant towards the German people or language - I loved working for the company and working with the people!
