i feel like the pictures are kind of blobby, when you zoom in only a slight amount really. my old htc one x had an 8mp camera but the pictures were much sharper when zoomed in. The cam is good providing you have good light but still i notice this blobbiness when you zoom in, only to the point where you are seeing the full image size
Anyone else feel like the camera could be better?

I'm not sure of it makes a difference but try exiting out off all your apps before taking a picture so the phone only focuses on the camera

hummmmm yes and no ...... yes i am talking about that sort of design etc ...... but i don't get Samsung ....... if your going to make a device like that why not go the full hog and put a decent size sensor in it , get rid of the cheap optical zoom and cheap optics from their ?99 point and shoot range you can get from argos and wack some of their decent glass and lens systems in there
for me the kzoom is hit and miss ...... its a great idea but not executed very well ...... a design like that could easily house a 1" sensor like the rx100 made by sony ..... as it is the nokia 1020 will pretty much beat it in every type of shot apart from zoom shots ;-) for example the aperture is what 3.1 the nokia 1020 is a nice 2.2 which is a whole step difference and will make a huge difference to how much light can hit the sensor , then we have the bigger sensor in the nokia 1020 despite the smaller profile which will again let in more light , then you have better optics by carl zeiss on the 1020 , rich recording mics for better sound quality , oversampling to eliminate noise
what we need is Samsung to go all out and ditch the ?99 point and shoot system they add to their phone and go decent high end optics ;-) the kzoom and s4 zoom are both funky and bold designs , yet i just feel Samsung could have done more with that design ;-)

I don't have my S5 yet. It will be here Monday or Tues. I'm super excited and learning what I can while it's in transit 
While the camera reviews are a major part of why I chose this phone, I also realize IT'S A PHONE...w/ a camera. If you set the camera on auto, it's going to average out all the settings and do what it thinks is best. But, it's not a one size fits all in the photography world. The less light you have, the higher the phone will set the ISO for more light. The higher the ISO, the grainier the picture. See if you can set the ISO and decrease shutter speed (decreased shutter speed will require the you and your subjects to be very still. Is your IS (image stabilization) turned on? The picture of the yellow flower looks good, not DSLR or bridge camera good, but PHONE good! The blurry background is usually desirable in a close up or macro shot like this. It's called a shallow DOF (depth of field). If you can set the aperture on this PHONE, widened it (lower number) if you don't like the blurred effect. Are you giving the camera time to focus? Practice and learn some manual settings. You'll see an improvement
Question: Can you take pictures with a voice command? With my Galaxy Note 10.0 2014 Edition, I say "Smile" and it takes the picture. This helps eliminate movement from touching the screen.
ps...don't forget post processing. A couple tweaks here and there can make a world of difference. If you don't want to spend money on a photoshop type program, Picasa is free and does a pretty darn good job!

but that's the thing monicakm the 1020/808/n8 have all taken super images in all kinds of light....... i would say with their sensor size and optics and from my use of them the 808 and 1020 can replace point and shoot cameras up to the ?250/?300 price point , i mean the 1020 even shoots raw images now ....... the difference between cameras and phones is shrinking every year ....... even the kzoom and s4 zoom actually come with a cheap and point shoot set up bolted onto the back and xenon flash and can replace a cheap point and shoot camera ;-)

You probably know this but by default the installed camera stores still pictures on the external micro SD card that you can install yourself . They are cheap so I don't worry about picture size! Exceptions are camera apps from the place store or photos taken in burst mode.
Takes fantastic outdoors pictures at all times of day indoor low light has too dark of pictures but when you brighten them in editing thwy are much better than you would think

Noise in lower light photos is understandable, but it looks to me like Samsung attempts to reduce noise by creating a slightly blurry photo, which is annoying. In my opinion, I'd rather have a sharp photo with some noise.
EDIT: I downloaded the Google Camera app. It lacks the features like Samsung's HDR mode, so I wouldn't use it as my primary camera app, but it looks like low-light photos are a bit clearer with it. I think I might use that app for low light photos and the Samsung app for everything else. With that system, I'm pretty impressed with the camera's abilities.

That's quite promising. I remember on the iphone I used the stock camera for auto and a better 3rd party app for "serious" photos because it allowed better control and the pictures came out much better. All of this is obviously not preferable though. =/
I'm thinking about trying the nokia 1020 but I hate to give up android. You may have sold me on trying a Windows phone.
The problem with the Google Camera app and all the others in the play store that I have found is they will not store pictures on an external micro SD card like the built in camera does by default (when using KitKat). I have tried. I'm with Verizon and don't have root. If you are with a carrier that the S5 has a rooting method for you may be able to work around this problem.
Just as a side note I am happy with the Camera in my S5. I took some pictures in a low light restaurant / bar and after all the negative press was really surprised by the quality. I did brace myself against a wall to help keep the camera steady. Makes me wonder if the camera takes movement into consideration when setting things like SS ISO etc. I'm getting pictures in all conditions as good as on my LG G2 and iPhone 5. My S5 pictures are better than what I could get with my Moto Maxx a phone I really like.
agree..... in certain light the photo is much better on the screen than what is taken.

It feels like the camera takes a bit of getting used to, especially for low light shots. I'm getting better shots in less than ideal lighting after a few days than I was when I first got the phone. You need to hold as still as possible while it takes the photo for optimal results.
Agreed, front camera is lousy, compared to S4 and Note 3 (I used both before)

The app itself does not like to blow out the bright spots in order to focus on very dark spots even if its just at the corner.
