First: I just want to thank all of you who gave such great advice/suggestions and who related your own issues to me with regards to the phone. To those of you who questioned whether I went to a bonafide Sprint Corporate store, let me assure you that my store is, indeed, a corporate store with repair center. The employee was rude from the moment I entered the door. She had attitude in her "can I help you?" She was looking out the window, at her friends in the store, and laughing under her breath about something with the girl next to her while I tried to relate the issues I was having with the phone and my conversation with Sprint customer care. Then, she cut me off mid-sentence and said "It doesn't matter what retentions tells you. We don't have to do what they say. We run ourselves." When I asked what that meant she got all huffy and sneered and basically told me, in nearly as many words, to shut up and accept the fact that I am screwed. I am not finished dealing with her. She'll be addressed with a DSM this week. However, I wanted to get the phone issue squared away before making a formal complaint. BTW, I was really very nice to her until she got so nasty that it required me to ask for her manager. She insisted that she *is* the manager. But, her name tag indicated she is only a sales rep. When I told her that her name tag and card indicate that she is not, in fact, the manager she said, "Well I am who you're dealing with." Like I said, I am not letting it go. The snot will be dealt with via her DSM.
Anyway, I do have an update. Sprint came through! Retention was great and it took a few days and being patient while they worked out what they could do, but, in the end, they reset my account. I got a new upgrade and they waived activation. And, I got a credit. So, YAY SPRINT!!!!
That said, I kind of hated the phone choices that are currently available. I'm not an EVO fan, would never ever get a Moto phone, and tbh, Samsung left a lot to be desired with this Nexus. Another poster above mentioned that the radios are weak or faulty on the Samsungs and I just can't waste any more time dealing with phone issues. I'm pursuing a PhD and I have a busy household. There just isn't time in my life for this nonsense.
As I mentioned earlier, my daughter wants an iPhone for Christmas. It is her first smartphone and since I have never touched an Apple device other than my old iPod Nano, I went to the local Apple store to get a qualified tour of the device and make the purchase. And, while I was there I kind of fell in love with *some* of the iPhone features--not all--there is still a LOT to be desired with the iPhone. Since I am going to Europe this summer for a month and will need to keep in contact with my child and my family here, the facetime is just super convenient. Anyway, this was just yesterday. I am trying the iPhone for the 30 days. There are some things about it that I already hate. But, I am getting ROCKING signal and wifi (go figure? I guess it *was* the Nexus). So far, I have tested it in the mall where I bought the phone and where my Nexus would never ever work at all. Worked great. On campus and even inside the parking garage where my Nexus would never ever work, the iPhone picks up 2-3 bars AND actually picks up campus wifi. And, on the road I was able to place calls, receive calls, and my daughter was texting her friends with it all with no connectivity issues.
I still love my Galaxy Tab and I figure with that device I can bridge the gaps in what iOS provides (or restricts, which is more accurate). Like I said, it isn't perfect. But, it gets signal and right now, that is what matters the most to me. I will be traveling to various parts of the southeast over the holidays, which will be within my 30 days and that will give me a better idea of whether or not I will be keeping it. But if it gets consistent signal during those 30 days, then I doubt that I would find any real reason to return it. Flame away, those of you who will accuse me of trolling or whatever. Yes, I have migrated to the dark side. Yes, I understand the limitations. Yes, it is not ideal. No, I do not totally love it. No, I am not under any illusions that the iPhone is the greatest thing since Elvis. It is what it is. But, like I said, for me, signal and connectivity is what I MUST have in a phone/device.
Again, thanks to everyone for the suggestions and info.
