Anyone else hung up on getting this phone because of the camera?

Zoes as 3-second videos are a gimmick. But here's the thing -- you often get better individual pics out of those Zoes. Remember that along with the 3-second mp4 you get 20 or so jpgs -- and those often are of better quality than a single image you might have snapped.

At least that's been my experience.

This is my experience too. A lot of the time, it is the shot you just missed that is 'the one'. This Zoe feature allows you to capture the shot you just missed with a normal single frame shot.

I think HTC went the right way with the camera. The S4 design went for pixels. Pixels have the advantage if you have a wide angle lens and you are going to crop. Who does that? Really? Maybe some of the people here, but the mass market won't. They never have, not since the first Kodak box camera. The average user will be someone taking pics of food, their kids, their drunk girlfriend at a bar and posting them immediately to Facebook. So guess what? All that resolution won't mean a bloody thing - the pic will be downsized and jpegged to death anyway. The HTCs better low light performance will. We will still see kids, food and drunk girlfriends, but maybe there will be less motion blur since you can use a faster shutter. They will still be terrible pictures, but maybe marginally BETTER terrible pictures :)

I really like this phone but everything I've read about the camera basically says it sucks. The latest firmware update apparently improved it a lot but most reviews have said it just takes crappy pictures compared to anything 8mp+. It's a shame because zoe looks like a really fun feature but whats the point if the camera takes horrible pictures?

I have an iphone 4s right now and I use the camera feature a lot. I really wanted to upgrade to this phone (mostly because I'm just sick of iOS) but I just can't seem to justify it to myself if it will be a downgrade in camera quality which is one of the features I use most on my phone. I feel like if HTC just kept everything else the same and went with the standard high megapixel reliable camera (that maybe isn't ideal for lowlight but better overall for everyday use) this purchase would have been a no brainer for me and I wouldn't have even considered not getting this phone.

Don't know which reviews you've read - but this camera is by far the best I've ever had on any phone (and I've had the iPhone 5, the SGS3, the Lumia 920 - you name it)

All the reviews I've read said that for posting on the web, showing on your tv, or on the phone's screen, the pictures are very good. If you intend to blow it up for print, you may lose some details, but you would with any cell phone camera, even a 13MP one.

The One also receives much praise for the very wide angle front facing camera. Excellent for video chat.

I'm getting it FOR the camera! Speakers and screen are the second and third reasons! Zoe is going to be amazing!

Remember what the doormouse said, feed your head!

A lot of you guys are pretty confident and I did a bit more research so I guess I will be going with this phone afterall and I suppose based on some of the sample shots it will be adequate for my purposes.

If you're on the fence why not wait an extra week or two after launch and just see what people think of the phone once they have it in their hands. Aside from reviewers most people are just going off their preconceptions of htc at this point. I'm sure there will be a bug or two that will pop up after launch and people's view on the phone will change. I don't expect that the one will do poorly once it gets into the wild but waiting will give you that extra piece of mind.
