So I was all happy that I got my EVO finally last night. So i got to facebook, and post " Fianlly got my EVO !! I love it" I click on update and I see my post which reads " Finally got my ECO !! I love it" ....

Now im getting ragged on cause my phone doesnt even recognize its own name...lol..

I thought that it was kinda funny.

I'm pretty sure I did the same exact thing when I got mine. Luckily I deleted my post before anyone noticed.....lol

lol... i was so excited, that I didnt even check the spelling. As a matter of fact, i did it 3 times cause I thought that it was me messing up....

Well I was sending an email about the upcoming UFC this weekend and had a bunch of people responding, "What's HTC? Is it a new MMA promotion?" ... It had auto corrected UFC to HTC, So it works both ways. :P

hahaaa I went to type "Nicole Scherzinger" today and it wrote "Income" instead of "Nicole." It is awkward using this phone since I am coming from a Palm Pre (I've only had the Evo for a day), but I love it so much I'm not even thinking about returning it :-D I always use the landscape mode for typing.

Yea, im coming off the PRE as well... i miss the swiping and cards.. but that its. Other than that... this phone is the best !!!

Ill start typing in landscape. And im getting used to Auto correct. I like that it saves the new words that I use.

turn off auto correct.

Kind of a silly reason to do so. For those of us that came from the iPhone, it recognized "iPhone" without correcting anything.

Swype ftw. Once you get swype you'll be set and never worry about your keyboard again.

Untrue. Used swipe for about a month but have been using the DroidX k/b after that. There's a certain satisfaction of using a keyboard when it's convenient for me.

I use the stock keyboard and love it. I've used Swype and SwiftKey but went back to stock. Auto-correct is my friend now.....lol

To each their own. I love swype. Just a recommendation. No harm in giving it a try.

It's not the keyboard. It's the autocorrect. If you're typing fast and don't pay attention, with words like "Evo" or "UFC" the phone will offer to "correct" it to something more common in its dictionary. Hitting space or a period will enter the undesired "correction".

The same problem would exist with Swype or any other keyboard if it uses the autocorrect feature. You can turn off autocorrect if it annoys you or you can get it to use what you typed by hitting the backspace or left-arrow key when it makes a suggestion you don't agree with and either add it to the dictionary (tap your entry) or simply use it without adding it (hit enter).

Swype is wonderful, but like Inspector Gadget said, it too has auto correct. 90 percent of the time that is not a bad thing, but you do have to teach it a lot of words and keep an eye on what it's typing.

Still, I can type faster with Swype than I could with my Palm Pre.

Happened to me when I first got my Evo, but thankfully you get use to it, and learn to double check before sending or posting anything. Auto correct can be a blessing or a curse if your not paying attention. LOL

I do agree you have to teach it a lot of words, especially if you are slang heavy, but my experience with swypehas been the opposite. I swype very quickly and get very little errors. Online it's harder to correct but in sms its simple.
In the end its all about preference, swype works for me and I like it, hence the recommendation. To each their own

Agreed :) I miss swiping the little cards away and the "swoosh" sound they made LOL. There is a soft spot in my heart for the Pre, but the hardware was miserable.

I was pleasantly surprised by the "word save" feature. I can now pretty much type whatever I have to with little to no error. I don't miss my Pre keyboard at all.

Once in a while I do get a laugh when it autocorrects stuff though :D

I have not yet tried Swype, nor do I know how/where to get it. I'm not in any urgency to find it though. It's more curiosity than anything else.

I 100% agree with you. I recommend Swype to anyone I see with an Evo. Too bad it takes a tad of effort to hunt it down on the interwebs. I think I've emailed the .apk a dozen times or so.

My thread above links to xda, who have a thread where they update the swype .apk. Imo, 1.60 is still the best but there's a 1.61 beta posted too
