Anyone else starting to give up getting the SIII

Yeah, I figured it was still optional to use... thanks for the reassurance! Sounds like Kies IS the only way to update firmware though...?

I believe that is what its used for but I could be wrong. I have never had the opportunity of using it in my Samsung device. Sprint never had Kies as an option in their variants I suppose. Would anyone know if there is any other way to install firmware upgrades besides Kies?!?!

OTA updates depending on carrier (and how much their willing to cooperate with Samsung on any given day).

How could someone already give up getting it? it's not like there is a phone that can compete with galaxy s3!

By the time any "better" phone comes out, we'll all be running AOKP Jellybean and waiting on CM10 on our SGS3's, making any other devices irrelevant till the next Nexus'es drop, imho.
