Anyone else using a metal/plastic bumper case? If so, does it affect your signal?

Hi

I have an aluminium bumper case and i like it a lot, but it seems to reduce the signal getting to the phone somehow. as long as i'm in an area with good reception it's fine but if i'm at work where the signal is bad i have to take the case off to get internet. anyone else use one and noticed this?

It may be the specific brand of case that you use, but in general, any metal case will affect reception. If placed correctly, it may even help amplify the signal, but with today's materials and antenna placements, it's usually the opposite.

I tried to use one on my note 3. It was a metal back plate. It reduces my signal to non existent. I wonder if this is why Samsung don't use metal in their devices?

I have a clear plastic case on my GS5, no problems here.

My brother in-law has a metal case on his GS5, no problems with signal.

Again, it's also the metal content in each case and the overall design (if it touches some part that's directly connected to the antenna, etc) that might affect performance. Metal is not a signal killer. It can, in fact, be a booster if designed correctly (we all remember Apple's antennagate, right?). If Samsung does choose to go with a metal chassis, their antenna would have to be designed for that material and maybe even take advantage of it.

it certainly seems to have some impact, i noticed today when I had it off at work that i was getting notifications for emails and stuff all day, when before i would only get push services for some reason. does anyoone know if the push service for apps like bbc news works even if you don't have internet? because they seem to

Yes, I had a metal bumper case and I faced the same issue. In low network areas, my phone couldn't get any network. So had to remove the case and throw it.

I was using a metal case and bumper. I am not an Apple user but loved the rose gold in the new 6s. So I bought a rose gold mirrored case. I had it in for about two weeks complained about my reception. It dropped calls, no bars, went from 4g to 2 g to nothing all the time. Called carrier frustrated several times. It dawned on me tonight it might be the case. Took it off....full bars and no more issues. DUH!!!!! Feeling kinda foolish!
