Anyone else wish the Pixel 2 was more like the Nexus 5?

The appearance of the back of a phone is a complete don't care because it's going to be covered with a skin or a case anyway.

Why does everyone here think everyone uses a case? I don't and never have. Thus a big consideration for me is the back of my phone. While I'm not a huge fan of a glass back, metal or ceramic (or even leather which I really miss from Moto) are awesome options that look and feel great and are durable.

Plastic for me..
Metal and glas is nice to look at Maybe. But no where as pratical.
The removabale plastic covers are much more easy to replace. Qi charging works.
Glass and metal means a damn case for me !!!

. . . because for every phone release there are a billion "What cases have you found for the phone?" threads . . .

Agreed. That being said, these phones are so expensive, it's not surprising almost everyone uses a case. The last phone I used without a case was the MOTODroid

That's all the people searching for something that will look and feel as nice as metal or glass.

I prefer the metal/glass phones of today, they look and feel nicer...

Plastic phones just felt and looked cheap. :(

Your amazing...myself and everyone else I have ever seen or know have their phones in a case...I would break a phone once a month without a case...with one on I have never broken one...Yet I also know a dozen folks who were still unlucky and broke their glass with a case.

Consider yourself amazing if you never drop your phone...Myself I have dropped my N6 over a hundred times and I wince Everytime...that's why I assume all normal folks use a case...

I have to say, I kind of miss plastic phones. The S3 was SO light, felt great in the hands.
I get High end materials. I like Metal and Glass as much as the next guy, but The Nokia 1520 build quality felt amazing and it had Zero metal. It was still heavy and solid feeling.
But, imagine a Note 8 with plastic build. Would it cost $200 less? $300 Less? would they make any money at $300 even if they Did use plastic? I think they should have plastic versions for less money.

I can't lie, I've managed to only kill 2 due to drops. *Knock on wood* it's probably just dumb luck, I'm not all that careful with them.

Only issue with that option is, just like the iPhone C, nobody would want to be seen with the plastic version lol. So it probably wouldn't sell that well with the exception of ppl who like plastic phones, maybe ppl who work in industrial or construction settings and maybe teens who's parents wouldn't pay full price for them to get the top dog premium version.

I got my old red Nexus 5 out of the cupboard and it really is the perfect form factor for a small phone. The screen is the same size as the Pixel 2 but the bezels are smaller and the polycarbonate/plastic body means you never had to cosset it or put it in a case. I've ordered the Pixel 2 but so wish Google had released an updated Nexus 5. A little beauty.

I don't wish for another Nexus 5.

I wouldn't say that, especially considering 99% of phone cases are made of either plastic, silicon, or TPU. They're looking for one of two things, or possibly both. First for protection because they drop things a lot, or their job or recreational activities increase the likelihood their phone will see damage (OtterBox). Second, for individualization, to make the phone their own (their favorite color, a specific design, or simply to cover up a phone where they don't like the design but like the functionality).

The best feeling phones I've used where the solid poly-carbonate slabs of the Lumias. My old 930 survived a 6 foot drop onto concrete with barely a nick to show for it. Would switch back to poly-carbonate in an instant if it was still used in flagship phones.

Whats the point making high end phones in glass when everybody slips a case on it? because it´s so slippery and fragile.
I´d like a phone with decent grip and some sturdiness, regardless of what material it´s made of :-)

I'll second this. Do people actually sit around and stare at their phones? If plastic is more durable, lighter, practical (removable batteries), cheaper, I'm all in, mine lives in a case too, maybe I wouldn't need one if we went back to well designed phones with plastic surrounds.
