Anyone get Note 8 just to kill time till the real king arrives, LG V30!

V30 will have the better display. First phone with an OLED display. Also how does the note 8 win on performance when its gonna have identical specs to the v30 and LG uses a lighter android skin. Battery life? you mean the smaller 3300 MAH battery in a 6.3 inch screen? v30 will have the same 3300mah in a 6 inch screen.

I agree with you on the battery life. On performance it turns out the Note 8 has 2GB RAM more, although with Sammy's software it may still be a tie in most scenarios. But on the screen, sorry, there's no way the V30 is going to be better.

Reviews of early units of the V30 are out, and while everyone is praising the OLED display, not a single reviewer has said it's better than the Note 8's display. They all say it's excellent but doesn't quite match up with the Note. It has also has lower max brightness, with the Note being the brightest in history (in sunlight at 1300 nits).

Personally I have been a bit torn about this. I loved the quad DAC on the V20, but I far prefer Bluetooth headphones, which makes it mostly moot. I also love the wide angle camera, but most of the regular photos I took in auto mode came out fuzzy. For a while I was convinced there must be something covering my lens. There wasn't. Samsung's cameras may not be the best in every area, but for quick point and shoot in any scenario and for staying focused on a moving objects during video, they kill the V20 and any other phone I've tried (which is way too many).

when I first saw the V30 I thought it looked really nice, then I saw a video with it side by side with the note 8 and I realized how much better looking the note 8 is. Am I the only one who thinks the V30 looks like it could pass for a second generation HTC evo?

No Thank You! I bought a bootlooping G4 to serve as a home phone and Tmo and LG passed me back and forth between each other. Some law firm keeps sending me emails about a class action suit against LG they are launching concerning the bootloops issues. I use it to hold my papers down on my desk now.

While the V30 looks like its a decent phone, IMO it doesn't hold a candle to the Note 8.

This is really an interesting topic about the future of popular phone brands. I don't think any industry sells to as many people on the planet as the fast foods and phones. So you're dealing with brands that affect almost everyone on the planet.

LG somewhere along the way lost it's cool. Keep in mind LG was never cool, they used to be called Lucky Goldstar in the 80s and they sold low end stereos.

Since I've been using Samsung for several years and before that I had a HTC, my LG phone may have been 14 years ago+ and it was a damn good phone. A two screen with physical keyboard. But reading the comments in this thread from people who actually have been buying LG recently makes you really wonder what's going on with them.

Keep in mind, those of us who are elite buyers, we don't just buy a phone, we buy into the brand. And LG seems not to instill confidence in people at this time regardless how good the V30 maybe, although it still needs to prove itself.

You don't need ir blaster if you have new Samsung phone and new Samsung TV.

You don't need an IR Blaster if you have an LG phone and LG TV made in the last 5 years either....or any phone and most TV's with smart functionality

My phone works to broadcast to both my TVs Samsung and LG it called Smart View stock software on your device

The v30 looks good, it definitely takes a lot of cues from the Galaxy S8. I think that it's a proper Flagship for LG and I hope it does well, but I would never pick it over the Note 8.

Just watched a V30 review. Stuff they're so ohhh ahhh over has been in Samsung devices 2 years. I was like, is this new? I'm not an LG user so idk if some of the features are brand new to LG or just new to the V30. At any rate, I'm unimpressed.

Like what?

ATM, all I can think of is that edge that slides out with some icons. It was definitely more than that. I just can't recall because There was nothing that stood out as new, but the reviewer sure was excited. Which is cool. Maybe there's some Note stuff that makes me all giddy that's a bore for a V30 user.

Almost all YouTubers who are successful are called "Influencers" to ad agencies and they are all basically on payroll. Some get money just to show up at events. For example one hot YouTuber (non-tech) with near 5 million subscribers gets $25K just to show you to your red carpet event and talk about it.

So, I never, ever care what a YouTuber says specially when they are covering brands (any industry) and I only care about tips and tricks. Their opinions are all paid for. :)

I was with you on not letting them make decisions for you, however cannot agree that all YouTube reviewers have their opinions paid for. They are making money to present their opinions, but they should never be changing their opinions based on their pay.

You should check out Flossy Carter. A little brash for some tastes but definitely not on payroll.

Tips and tricks are life! It was a N3 video that got me hooked on the Note brand. At the time I was using an S2 - Epic 4g Touch with Sprint. Only I know what's hot and what's not for me, so although I appreciate the work they put into the videos and the first looks at the functionality, their opinions don't hold alot of weight. But I'm watching everything I can on the N8 ;-)
