Anyone Google wallet?

I bit the bullet and got Root Explorer. Super simple and figured it'd come in handy later when I start flashing a different bazillion roms. Sure there's a free method somewhere but probably requires more work.

Do I just do the same exact steps? Can you let me know exactly what I have to do please? Don't feel like bricking a brand new phone again.

1. Open Root Explorer
2. Allow root privileges when prompted
3. Scroll down to and select System
4. Hit the button near the top that says Mount R/W (should change to Mount R/O)
5. Long press on build.prop and choose Open in Text Editor
6. Change model, name and device lines to those in the guide
7. Hit the menu button and choose Save and Exit
8. Reboot into Recovery if you haven't installed Google Wallet yet or just Reboot if you already have it.
9. Open wallet and add cards
10. Repeats steps 1, 3 and 4.
11. Long press on build.prop and choose delete
12. Long press on build.prop.bak, choose rename and remove the .bak extension
13. Reboot

It requires a little more effort, but I always boot into CWM and make a backup before doing any of the above so you're never "soft" bricked and won't have anything to set up. Also I'd make a backup after wallet is installed in case you manage to do something that makes your device not boot. Whenever doing a factory reset or installing a new rom, be sure to go into Wallet, hit the menu button and choose Reset Google Wallet.

I have Google Wallet installed but not the way it says on XDA. Is that fine?

It may work. Where'd you get it from?

I downloaded from the market lol.

Edit: Took the bullet and bought Root Explorer. Worked with it. The Google Wallet I got from market didn't work though. So I had to flash the zips at XDA. Works great now :). Added debit and pre-paid card.

Does installing Wallet this way maintain the availability of S Voice? I'm probably the one person who actually likes it.

I was reading before on XDA one of the older methods of getting google wallet to work you had to edit the build.prop then wallet would work and S Voice wouldn't work. But if you changed the build.prop back to your original wallet would stop working and S Voice would start working again...... But like I said I'm pretty sure that was one of the older methods

I like S Voice too.....lol

Word of caution (maybe). I used my American Express Blue Preferred Cash card to buy groceries at Meijer. AMX BPC gives 6% cash back on groceries.

During checkout, I selected my AMX card in Wallet and paid for my items. Something odd was on my receipt. The last four digits of the credit card printed on the bottom of my receipt were not the last four digits of my AMX card. In fact, they were not of any credit card I own.

I am thinking Google created a temp CC number to pay Meijer and funded the purchase through my AMX card and thusly taking away my 6% cash back reward.

I will be looking at my AMX account's "recent activity" today to see how the purchase happened and will report back later.

I am thinking that if you use a reward type credit card thru GW.... you may not be getting the rewards you would get if you swiped your card instead of using wallet.

yeah, Google essentially turns every card into a vitrual mastercard in order for you to use PayPass on cards that normally wouldn't support it. Below is what google says about reward cards.

About rewards points with linked cards - Wallet Help
About rewards points with linked cards
You may earn reward points for purchases through your card issuer’s credit or debit card rewards program (such as gas, grocery, and restaurants purchases, and overall spending), if applicable. However, your card issuer (not Google Wallet or The Bancorp Bank) determines and is responsible for whether rewards points or other benefits apply to purchases where Google Wallet facilitates the payment and then bills your selected credit or debit card.

If you receive additional rewards when shopping at a specific merchant, these benefits may not be applied when using Google Wallet.

Please contact your card issuer for questions on any rewards program associated with your registered card.

Did all this and I am getting an error message:

insufficient secure element privileges for this system image (release-keys)

Your secure element isn't broke is it? I am afraid I may forget to reset mine flashing and break it:confused:

As long as you make a backup before flashing, you should be good. Saved my butt when I flashed Synergy thinking it wouldn't completely wipe system. Luckily I was able to restore the backup and reset Google Wallet.

My question is two part
1st)
Does this method still work?
Google wallet fix for SGS3 US variants AT&T, T-MOBILE, US Cellular, VERIZON, etc - xda-developers

2nd)
Since I have wallet already set up and working great on my nexus I dont want to do anything to mess that up
Is this hacked version of the wallet going to show my funds already added on google wallet thats installed on my nexus?I currently have abouy 30 dollars on google wallet thats installed on my nexus.

Or is it going to be like the first time I have ever installed Google wallet, meaning I will have the free 10 dollars like it was when I first installed it on my nexus?
Since I am using the same account email as on my nexus I am curious as to how this will work.
I dont know it might not be a good ideal ,but something I just had to throw out there to see if anyone has been in the same position as me or if they know .:)

Don't the instructions in the XDA thread apply only if you can start the wallet? I get the "insufficient secure element..." message, then exits without starting.
