Anyone having Bluetooth reception issue?

Ever since I had my pixel, I noticed the poor reception for Bluetooth.

When paired with the Bluetooth headphones I have been using for the past couple of years, once I walk more than 5 ft away from the phone, people on the other side of the call will notice a significant drop in quality and volume of my voice. This had never happened with my other devices such as tablets, laptops and cell phones, but it was really bad with the pixel, and it's getting annoying.

Anyone having similar Bluetooth issues?

I've had excellent Bluetooth signal. When at the gym I can walk across the entire rack (10 or 15 ft) and never get a stutter. I noticed that the Amazon Alexa app messes with Bluetooth connectivity. Do you have it installed?

I don't have the Alexa app installed, but now that you mentioned it, I am wonder if any other app has been messing with my bluetooth headphones. The one I have been using is the Samsung HM1200. I'll see if I can try other pairs of headphones and see if there's any issues. Hope it was an isolated issue.

Thanks for your input.

While some folks don't have BT issues, others are really bothered by it. My take is that it is device-dependent. If you are lucky to have one or more devices that work, that's great.

The problem is that a significant number of Pixel users, that have not had any issues over the years connecting to their existing BT devices (headphones, speakers, car units, receivers, etc) now have issues.

For me, my car's BT does the best - it's not as good as with previous phones, but the drop-outs aren't constant. For my BT speakers, headphones and Amazon receiver (used with my home audio system) the Pixel is poor. Poor, like, no other phone I've ever owned, or anyone in my family has ever owned, has had BT connections this bad.

Google is very well aware of this - go look in the Pixel Community. The experts there tell an endless line of Pixel owners discovering that their Pixel has bad BT to re-pair and then factory-reset their Pixels. Then, the Pixel owners return to report that those "fixes" didn't do anything. Round and round it goes.

If you have a great experience with the Pixel's BT, that's really awesome. You're lucky that your specific devices are on the short list of Pixel-friendly devices.

With all that negativity thrown out there, I am hopeful that Google will noodle-through this and release an update that allows the Pixel to have the same type of consistent BT functionality that most of us have had for years with our previous phones.

My Pixel XL works fine with my Jawbone Bluetooth headset... no disconnects, no static; however, I cannot get it to communicate with my Smart Instant Pot (pressure cooker) but I think that has more to do with the Nougat OS than anything else. So, I will just keep using my S5 to communicate with the Instant Pot until its app is updated to handle Nougat. :D

I haven't had any problem with my phone automatically connecting with any of my Bluetooth devices, but in my Corolla the music will cut out for less than a second every once in a while. I just attributed it to the head unit because I don't have any problem with other devices. Also, I am a Toyota technician and I know first hand how terrible Toyota radios are. PARTICULARLY with Bluetooth.

On a side note, with my Nexus 5X my bloutooth headphones had static when nothing was playing. On the Pixel they don't.

Mine is a day to day thing. Some days it works perfectly with both my car and headphones. other days reception is weak and cuts out easily from my headphones, and some days the phone features struggle to connect to my car.

However, my 6p Bluetooth didn't work at all so this experience is definitely an upgrade 😂

I was able to duplicate this bluetooth reception issue by covering the top part of the phone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNwv6aNEwAo&list=WL

On top of that, I just found that my bluetooth interferes with wifi: google play music stops streaming every 5 minutes, VOIP calls intermittent connection issue also every 5 minutes.

I have contacted google customer support, but the initial response was far from helpful. This is my first google product. I wonder what I should expect from them with regards to customer service or warranty claims.

Got a Pixel XL back in November and this is my third Google device. In my experience, so long as you bought it directly from the Google Store you will have no trouble with customer support (they once replaced my year and a half old Nexus 5 with no quibble, and it arrived next day). If you got it through your network/another source you'll just get pointed in that direction.

I got my Nexus 6 from a third party and had so many issues getting repairs I will only ever buy from Google Store in future.
