I've got a head scratcher for you. I'm having some issues with Gmail that nobody seems to be able to resolve. I was doing something on my brother's phone, and I noticed that when he got an incoming email there was no notification sound and there was no notification in the status bar. I have worked with tech support for Verizon and Samsung and they could not resolve it. Samsung initially told me that it had something to do with an update. They referred me to "U Break Fix" . When I called them they're like we don't deal with software issues we deal with hardware. I went into the Verizon store, and it was there that the guy discovered that it was happening on my phone as well as my brother's. They've reset all my notification settings. They've made sure that all the appropriate notification settings are set so that these things will happen, yet they don't happen. I've also noticed that in the notifications, like when you scroll down from the top of your phone and you get all the notifications that you've got, it doesn't appear there either. The email will be in my inbox but there'll be no notification anywhere, and no notification sound. It's only my phone, my tablet and his phone that are having these issues. Everyone else I talk to who has Gmail is not having an issue. I want occasion, I rebooted the phone and then sent an email from my Yahoo to my Gmail and everything worked fine. But only that one time. Same with his phone. I have uninstalled the updates for the Gmail app. I've reset all permissions for apps. I am completely at a loss and very frustrated.

What phone do you have?

What app are you using for email?

Have you checked your sleeping app's list to see if your email app is listed there?

Have you tried uninstalling the app or its updates and reinstalling?

I wouldn't expect it to be much different from one Sammy to another but it is usually helpful to know which device users have. This allows us to do specific searches and get better answers. If you're using the GMail app, try setting up just one of your accounts in the Samsung Email app, or vise versa if you're using the Samsung or some other app. Then test that app. The reason for this is mostly to check your settings. If a new app is having the same issues as the old app, it might be a device setting, if not it could be an app setting. Samsung has been known to be aggressive with putting apps to sleep that it sees as running too much in the background. I would assume there is something to prevent this with communication apps like email but there is a chance that it did. See below how to check these lists. Sometimes things just get stuck or glitch and a fresh install clears it all up. If you're using one of the preinstalled apps you won't be able to completely uninstall the app but you can usually uninstall the last update. If it was the update that caused the issue this can reverse it. after which you can reinstall the update or wait until the next one and hope it's better.

To check your sleeping apps list go to, Settings>Device care>Battery>Background usage limits>Sleeping app/Deep sleeping apps, check for your app and remove if from these lists if found.
