Anyone heard any news on Froyo + EVO 4G?

I doubt that we will get it fast. It has to go through Sprint and HTC, so that just adds time to it. I will try it out when the Evo is rooted.

But who's to say that it isn't already being modified by Sprint and/or HTC? It only makes sense that it would be released on the EVO second to the Nexus 1.

I'm with the guys who say it'll be coming soon. I don't see see it not coming soon.
This is the flagship phone of all Android. Of course Google will release it to their phone 1st but Sprint and Google will certainly want the latest on this phone ASAP.
I would assume HTC would as well. Considering this is coming out so soon after I/O I wouldn't be surprised to have an update waiting after activation just like with the Pre.

Well this week Google IO Convenience where they are supposed to be releasing 2.2. I suspect but have NO PROF that the week Nexis 1 will get the update and the update for EVO is ready to go and we will have it on the day of launch.

Like I said no evidence but it makes since to me. We will find out if I am right or wrong this week.

Doesn't it also have to go through HTC as well as Sprint? They need to slap Sense UI on there, wonder how long that will take?

HTC and Sprint does have to test and approve it.
But then again why could this not be done or in the process right now?

I doubt Google waits until they officially launch before they release the OS to OEMs.
The minor details of 2.2 were leaked weeks ago.
I'm sure HTC already has 2.2 and is working on it at least.

If Palm is any indicator Sprint can push an update in about a month.

My guess is since the Evo is Sprint's new flagship device, they'll push the 2.2 update out ASAP.

Just like when the Pre was Sprint's flagship device, they pushed the updates out ASAP.

That's just my logical/optimistic point of view :D

Hopefully we'll (EVO owners) will get the update in a timely fashion & not have wait months after 2.2 has been released to other non-sense devices.

Yeah, but u know how HTC and Sprint are together with updates...their motto should be "the later the better" lol

I see it this way...

The Hero is about to get 2.1, BEFORE almost all 2.1 updates go to Hero's overseas.
The Moment already has 2.1
The Evo is THE device on Sprint when it releases, and I don't think they'll want the iPhone 4 or the Droid or Incredible to out-shine it just because... and 2.2 brings Flash, a BIG step up over iPhone in some people's eyes.

Also, 1ghz snapdragon with Sense is what they'll have to port to 2.2... Incredible/Desire is almost the same in that regard. Tack on 4G and you're done.

I think the Evo will get 2.2 semi-quickly. HTC knows that the Evo and incredible are major competitors to the iPhone 4. The major thing that will set them apart is flash, which Jobs has said will never come to the iPhone. VZW and Sprint know this too and it is likely that they will push for that distinction. HTC has two flagship phones right now and in a law suit with Apple. Getting 2.2 out there ASAP is a good way to stick it to Apple.

There's an article on PreCentral about how long to took Sprint to push out WebOS updates.
We're talking less than two weeks. If HTC gets it ported and ready, and who's to say the current version of Sense doesn't work on 2.2, we could see it very soon.

I'm wait 'till I/O. How do they do it I never paid attention before, Announcements at the beginning or end of the conference?
If it's ready we ought tol hear something after the official Froyo announcement.

look at sprint track record for android hero with 2.1 and with TP2, WM 6.5 ... u can forget a speedy release of the new OS ... to them 2.1 is stable and fine .. they get no real benefit with putting 2.2 on the device so why rush and invest money into it ... i feel we will get but dont hope for the update anytime soon... the one thing i think they are concentrating now is the 4g coverage throughout the US

Not exactly true. In a few months all new Android phones will be coming with 2.2 regardless of specs.
Having the Evo with an older version of Android will be a detraction.

Plus full flash on 4G is a definite selling point for them. VZW won't have LTE up for another year. Sprint has got to make the most of their 4G while they are ahead.
