Anyone jealous of the Optimus 2x?

And this is why i will never buy a device on contract , i would hate to be paying for a contracted phone that is already 1up'ed

+1. That's what makes the Optimus S so awesome. It's an awesome phone that can be had new for around $200 without contract.

I figure I can stick with whatever phone I choose for a year and then upgrade to another cool android phone after a year with full discount. Phones will one up themselves several times in a year and you will go broke, if you keep buying the latest and greatest on that quick of a schedule.

If you are a Sprint Premier customer, which most everyone is, the main line gets one year upgrades, instead of the two year upgrades.

yup yup.. how I got this. My one year hit and sprint gave me the optimus s at no cost to me, not even shipping. So happy to get rid of my blackberry curve

I think it's probably going to be June before Sprint releases a dual core phone (based on when they released their prior top tier phone, the evo).

I'm planning for all the bugs to get worked out of that phone and then I'll use my annual upgrade on a dual core phone next holiday season... but that's only if prior history repeats itself.

The problem is that while you can replace the phone every year, every time you do that you extend your contract for 2 years. That essentially ties you to Sprint and Sprint's phones unless you want to pay the ETF. Sprint has a very decent lineup of Android phones, so for many that won't be a big deal, but if the next big thing is exclusive to a different carrier, then your stuck. I was happy to pay $200 for the phone outright to stay out of that game. If I wanted the EVO or Epic, I probably would have used my upgrade as buying those phones outright is prohibitively expensive for me.

I love that LG is coming out with all these great phones. I will gladly stick by my Optimus S for quite some time to come though. For me the size, power, construction, makes it a great fit for my life but i can certainly see the draw behind this new beast.

True, but the next big thing on a different carrier is most likely going to be just as prohibitively expensive out of contract as well, so you'd be stuck in a contract there as well when the next big thing came to a different carrier.

hate contracts

If i could have got my Android fix on Boost i would have never signed a Sprint contract. At 50 a month for the same unlimited features and service as Sprint and being able to use any Sprint phone just about (except Android) it was ideal. And they just added shrinkage. I just couldnt wait for it to happen. I love my Optimus though and i guess by the time i have an upgrade these dual core feature rich phones will have a lot of the bugs worked out. I just hate how fast they go from phone to phone. Androids go obsolete so fast. The girlfriend is quite unhappy about her Hero. I don't like the idea of this phone being chucked so fast.

There's no release date even listed for the US so my guess is we will end up waiting longer for the release of this phone. Partly because of all the major steps and politics involved in releasing phones in this country.... What a shame. That's why the next phone you get is always outdated approx a year later.

BUT! I "purchased" (got this phone for free) based on the fact that it isn't a "high performance" phone. I wasn't looking for top of the line. I needed something realistic that I could use while at work, at home, traveling a lot, etc. There were certainly more high end options available at the time that I got this phone and I chose this particular one for the facts that it fit my lifestyle more than the other phones available. i.e. EVO, Epic.

I think who will be more upset are the people that paid (yes, PAID!!) 200+ dollars in addition to the 10/month additional on their monthly bill for the higher end phones available this year and will see them outdated next year, by LG nonetheless! Ha! I think a lot of these people pulled the trigger too early whereas the LG Optimus S group (all my peeps! :)) are a bit more patient and methodical about choosing their next smart phone, which will more than likely be an LG based on experiences with this phone. Well, at least for me it will be. And, if the technology reaches the point where I can have the option for a dual-core processor, large scree, front facing camera, and maybe even some gorrila glass for my screen (that's some impressive stuff) and not have to pay 200+ for it, and it still fit my lifestyle, then at that point I believe it will be time to upgrade. I am completely satisfied with my Optimus S. With the support and developer community available to this phone, I see this phone sticking it out for a long time.

lol I won't. Beezy and I will be playing with this phone for a loooong time to come. Everyone can rest assured we're not done yet and the development community is only going to get larger when you look at the sales of this series of phones ... yikes!!! 2 million in 2 months?? :D

Well buddy, the Optimus S (or possibly V) is coming no contract to Virgin Mobile. I know its just rumors but the product code is VM670 and its listed on the FCC, the WiFi certification website, and the CDMA international websites. So I'm holding out for that cause they and Boost share the same Sprint network.

Virgin is fine and all, but i had problems using any Sprint phone like Boost. I'm in contract now though so i will just pay the extra and enjoy my Optimus. (Addicted to Android)

I noticed someone is porting CM6 for the Optimus One P500 over at xda. They say with some tweaks it will be able to be used on the Optimus S. Any way you guys gonna make CM6 a reality for us Optimus S users? That would be awesome. I loved CM6 on my Hero...
