Apple-like response from Samsung..........."According to Samsung, the Galaxy S10 sales are actually “1.2 times” higher than the S9 series sales. However, Samsung did not comment on what the real numbers were."
So probably really somewhere in middle.

I just checked out on my carrier's webpage (just to see what the freebies are here in my country, I'm skipping 10), and they're backordered with regards to incoming stock. So it's pretty good. I never saw it like that when I got my S9. So anecdotally at least, it's doing better than the S9 in my country (PH).
Relative to pre-sales of the S8 and S9?
I'm guessing they're much better.
Local stores are not the key indicator, but total registration is. Analysts are saying not as good as previous devices, but are saying the same thing about iPhone. The devices from last year still rock, so there are less one and dones. Even more of the weight is two years or more now, but no true incremental growth.

Why is it that it seems the S line doesn't run out of stock like the Note seems to?
Probably due to being one specific model, rather than split demand with the Plus and non Plus. Why is it that it seems the S line doesn't run out of stock like the Note seems to?
