Anyone planning on rooting their S7 Edge?

I think people are reading too much into the battery stats where they think the top 2-3 items listed there are killing the battery. I have two phones here using Adguard. One lists Adguard at 23% using 417 mAh, the other is at 40% with 1007 mAh and Android OS is up there at 31% at 734 mAh. Both of these phones last me more than a day on standby and give me between 3-5 hrs screen time. I don't think the amount of battery being used by Adgurd is anything to worry about considering it's always running. You can turn to on and off and use it only when you are using a browser or wanting to block ads in a certain app. Nothing says you have to keep it on 24/7. I just don't think it uses enough of my battery to worry about considering what it's doing for me.

You can also start using it on one phone and when you get a new phone, transfer it to that new phone. You have to login to the website at adguard.com and where it lists your phone model, click unbind and then you can install and run Adguard on the new phone. I have two licenses for two phones. I only paid for a year on each because it's hard to say what will happen next year.

Stop worrying about what the battery stats say too much and if the phone is giving you the hours of use that you need, isn't that good enough?

Thanks for the reply.

Given that my primary reason for blocking ads (and for buying the pro versions of aps that are ad supported) is to save battery, yes, it matters to me. If it cost $0.99 instead of $9.99 for a year (and I don't like the subscription model as a rule), I'd probably not be as concerned. For that price, it damn well better save me some battery given what it does, though. It certainly shouldn't use more of my battery than it saves, and I suspect that may even be the case.

To compare and contrast, I use Chrome Dev instead of some other browser that likely would use less battery because of the benefits of the baked in Chrome experience. So, I'm not for saving battery life at all costs, but for an ad blocker to not save me at least a little bit of battery doesn't make sense in my hierarchy of things. Especially for the price in this case.

...but I'm not certain that my perceptions of Adguard are accurate. Keeping an open mind for now.

I'd been trying the Adguard free trial the past couple of weeks, based on seeing your earlier mentions of it.

I'm not certain it is a battery saver, though it surely seems like it should be. What's your opinion on that?

Adguard has only impacted my battery life marginally. I still get just over 7 hours screen on time over 24 hours usage.

Since both phones have such a large battery the 2% is not significant is it? for a 24hr cycle I dont think it makes such a difference. Anyone experience cycle drop for wireless charging or is it too early to say?

I'm still on the LG G4. My S7E arrives today. At this point I'm deciding if I want to outfit the Edge with an Adguard subscription or not.

The issue isn't so much the percentage of drain of Adguard itself, but that it doesn't seem to save battery overall within other apps in which it's blocking ads.

Again, that's more my perception than a scientific data point. If that perception is correct, any additional battery drain for this type of app, especially at its price point, isn't acceptable for me. Seems counter-productive to whatever degree.

The purpose of the app isn't to save battery life, though. So i'm not sure where your reasoning is coming from?

One of the benefits of blocking ads is cutting off the refresh of those ads, which drains battery over time (as well as using data if not on WiFi). Why shouldn't I expect that blocked ads wouldn't save some battery with this app?

Because the amount of data in ads is so minuscule, it will not be noticeable in battery life at all.
