I'm way late to the conversation here, but I'll chime in anyway since I had both phones. I scored a Amazon Warehouse Deal for a 32GB 6P, but it was backordered and didn't show up right away. Started reading all the positive reviews of the Pixel and ordered an XL also. I used the XL for 4 solid days before the 6P showed up, then switched to the 6P and ended up returning the XL after a few days. I thought the Pixel was a great phone, and the battery life for me was awesome, but it wasn't $300 better, much less $500 (my price difference). I find the 6P battery life more than adequate, and the speed differences were not noticeable for how I use the phone (no gaming or other intensive use). I also like the bigger screen and speakers on the 6P better. So OP, based on my experience, I think you're dead on regarding the price difference of the two phones. But I also agree with other commenters that there are other factors in play here for Google, and they are taking a whole new approach with the Pixel. But for people like us who are hanging out on forums posting about our phones, the 6P is still a better deal IMO.
