Anyone selling their Bionic for the Prime?

Not sure what your definition of a "real user" is, so I may not qualify, but since I have been using mobile devices since the bag phone days, travel all over the US and have had a fair number of different phones, and, I am a human, I am hoping I am a "real user." That being dias, I have had no real issues with my Bionic in terms of signal strength. I have yet to lose a call, get 4G in most, but not all, areas and have no complaints about radio quality. Guess that means I am not real.

I've just become cynical about these phones cause of lots of bad experiences with moto since gingerbread was released, but your type of response is exactly what I was hoping for, someone with experience, not rumors. This thread might just be a case of “those who are angry shout the loudest”/silent majority.

Thanks,
-James

Oh, and no need to take offense at someone questioning the greatness of your device, lol. I base buying decisions on fact not emotion and my phone isn't the same thing as my child, to me anyway, I know some don't agree with me on this and they're entitled to their opinions too.

Really, Radio quality? All I've heard is complaints about it dropping every single connection. Not trolling, my last three devices have been motos and they've all had $#i+ty signal. Now I need to upgrade to a 4g device and I'm really curious what a real user thinks. From what I've heard since launch, it's not even making my list of possibilities. Even VZW store reps have confirmed for me that it has lots of issues.

Yes. The radio used for calls is superb, as Moto is usually head of the class in this department. Haven't heard such clear voice calls in a long time, Honestly.

The data radios are actually really, really good too. The 4G antenna that Moto designed themselves for this phone gets excellent when you are in range and doesn't murder your battery at all, from my month of experience. The past 2-3 weeks I haven't even used wifi because I'm in a good 4G area and it doesn't hurt my battery life AT ALL.

Now, there IS an issue with switching between the antennas where some people, and myself included to be fair a few times, have seemed to lose data signal. It appears to correct itself if you toggle airplane mode on/off real quick. Yes, its a bug, but its a software bug, not a hardware bug, and Moto has admitted it exists and will be fixed in the upcoming OTA update. Also some testers who are already working with the update have confirmed that this as well as some other bugs with the phone have been cleared up.

Not selling mine, just giving it to my wife. It's a really nice phone and she's excited for a big screen (she's on a 32gb I*hone). I'm excited for the Nexus though, and can't pass it up.

On a related note, it looks like the first OTA update will cure about 99% of the bionic's bugs.

I will be driving 450 miles on Sunday and spending a week in some rather remote areas. If ever there was a test of radio capability, this will be one. I will be happy to Royer my resultd, maybe even from the remote hills of the Appallachians!

Keeping both to swap between OJ random days... just a sim change to active. >=)

rooted, debloated, UNL3ASH3D and now unthrottled! >=)

I am.

while the Bionic's new UI is pretty good, most would prefer the ability to run stock..

It's sad to say but if stock ICS ran on the Bionic i'd keep it..

I might...not because I dislike my bionic but I'm intrigued by the true google experience and the first to get ics. Plus I know developers are waiting to get their hands on the prime to begin developing roms aka p3droid. They wanna make the prime their main device. That in itself is exciting.

Not sure if i'll make the jump. Patiently waiting....

The Bionic rocks...and with the lapdock it is pretty much the ultimate setup for me.

I just got rid of my terribly buggy Thunderbolt for this, and my wife now wants to do the same. I loved the OG Droid, and the Droid X. Thunderbolt...I wanted to like it so bad, but just had too many issues.

Now I'm back to Motorola with the Bionic and couldn't be happier.

Hi Everyone. My name is Kevin, and I am a cell phone whore.

Yes... I will sell my Bionic and get the Prime.

To be perfectly honest, I will be getting rid of both of my bionics if the Prime is as good as it sounds right now. I'm going to wait and see how people like it when it is released.

After the garbage Motorola has put me through with the Xoom, I really have no desire to purchase, or use anything that has the Motorola name and logo attached to it.

I hope that with Google taking over part of Motorola, they will start being more receptive to customers needs.

I have a Bionic and have no plans on getting rid of it for a Prime. There is an old saying "the grass is always greener"....and IMO it will be true here.

There have so far been 2 leaked updates (5.5.891 and 5.5.892) which have TONS of bug fixes in them. This update is confirmed to fix the radio issues as well as offer many bug fixes and performance improvements.....If your bionic is rooted simply install one of the newer custom roms with the leaked OTA files (note dont install the actual OTA as you'll either brick yourself or be excluded from future OTAs till a proper full recovery is leaked) and you will see how much smoother and better Android runs.

Honestly the only feature I can think of that really makes the Prime look much better than the Bionic is the unlocked bootloader. This will allow those who want to run custom roms a bit more freedom, but CM is already being ported to the Bionic via 2nd init and the Bionic's bootloader IS unlockable....it just needs either Verizon or Moto to give the ok.

The whole stock vs non-stock argument is kinda mute...most people with stock android switch to custom launchers....we also dont know if the Prime on Verizon is even 100% stock or not, some sources feel the UI we see is Touchwiz based which means Prime owners get to look forward to Samsung's famous updates.

Hardware wise....the screen while better looking on the Prime wont be as easy to see in sunlight and will use a lot more of the battery than the Bionics screen. The processor is only slightly faster (1.2Ghz) and since it runs at a higher resolution the overall device performance will basically be the same.

Finally I want to say that the Prime is only being announced...it wont actually be released till late oct/early nov. Now the Bionic has been out about a month now and here we are listening to "the next great thing". Well Motorola is working on their Droid Razor/HD/Whatever with similar specs to the Prime so do you wait for that or get/keep the Bionic. Oh lets not forget the first Tegra 3 phones are coming out early 2012 so do you really want to get an old dual core phone when you can wait a few more months for a 5 core phone (1x at 500Mhz for low power mode, 4x at 1.3Ghz for normal use)? Next thing you know you'll have waited 6-8 months for that 1 device and had you gotten a bionic on day 1 you'd be 6-8 months into that new contract towards something insanely faster.

I will be keeping my bionic. I was waiting for the gs2 for verizon but that never happene. I picked up the bionic instead and it far exceeded all of my expections. Very happy with it. Cant wait for custom roms so i can overclock!

Did the Droid Prime release? Is there even a release date set?

It won't be Droid branded. Announcement was set for the 11th, but postponed because of Steve Jobs's death. Release will probably be the 27th of this month or the 3rd of November.

I'm keeping my Bionic also. I was holding out for the Nexus phone but, after the Iphone 4S announcement, seeing leaks of ISC and, playing with the Bionic, I decided to get the Bionic.

The Bionic has really impressed me. I'm more about the experience & functionality and, they have added a lot of nice little things that make me like this phone, probably things that may not matter to some people.
