Anyone still using the stock keyboard on Galaxy S5?

Re: Anyone still using the stock keyboard?

With the keyboard open, hold down the bottom-left key (which has the SwiftKey logo) and after a second there should be different setting options that pop up. One says resize.

Re: Anyone still using the stock keyboard?

IPhone keyboard is horrible and swiping is far from a gimmick. Some people just don't have the skill it takes to use it. Which isn't much ......

It's a gimmick just like T9 that predated it. Most peg the gold standard of on screen keybards to be the iPhone. Swiping introduces way too much motion and associated inaccuracies for me. But in the end it's personal preference. The Samsung keyboard, once you have it learn from contacts and such is almost as good as the iPhone. I wish for a larget space bar.

Re: Anyone still using the stock keyboard?

Millions of people disagree as does the world record for typing speed and accuracy with a swipe method being used. The iphones keyboard is beyond stale and offers nothing other than tapping , no short cuts, swiping, quick responses, dedicated # row, anything ..it's basic as can be. That's far from "gold standard" but whatever suits u lol. I recommend the imore forums for u, it's a little more.....basic like your favorite keyboard.

Eh. Recent iPhone 5C convert here (had previously had an S4 before my current S5). Outside a select few, most iPhone users would disagree with you. All the records and stuff are great but none of that matters to the average user. 'Millions' of iPhone users disagreeing that Apple's keyboard is the gold standard seems like a reach. I know I for one didn't miss SwiftKey one bit over the 6 month period I had my iPhone. It's very easy to master and very quick to type on if you're acquainted with it.

Oh it's Beta alright....crash crash crash crash....I gave it a shot....

I agree the iPhone keyboard isn't horrible but to call swiping a gimmick is just ridiculous. Everyone has their own preferences which is fine, but to call iPhone keyboard gold standard is a joke.

Re: Anyone still using the stock keyboard?

T9 was not a gimmick, it was a solution for less painful typing on a numeric keypad.

Swype is also useful in the same way in that it makes typing faster and easier, especially one-handed typing. Sure an iPhone keyboard is good, but as mentioned Swype holds the speed record so there is no claiming it is a worthless gimmick. The beautiful thing about it is that if you don't like it you don't have to use it. Wierd concept, I know.

I love the Samsung keyboard so far. The number row, hold for symbols, predictive text, and swype all add up to the best keyboard I've ever used. Granted, I am not a teenage texting professional, just an average consumer. But those small things make a world of difference in my opinion.

I could care less about a "world speed record". It's meaningless when the majority of phone users (hint, not this forum) just type on the regular old keyboard. Oh, and the iPhone keyboard does allow for limited swiping stuff. It's gimmicky there too.

And, in case you didn't know, I have an S5 - came from the iPhone. Both are great platforms and even on Android I don't feel the need to customize for customization's sake. Heck, most of the S5 stuff I feel is gimmicky. Don't use most of it but the things I see and feel - the screen, the camera, etc, are awesome. To suggest because someone doesn't use a gimmicky feature they should be "simple" is ludicrous.

And, yes T9 and Swype are gimmicky. They usually choose wrong, take your attention away and will be easily forgotten except by a minority. Been there, done it, have the T-shirt.

Re: Anyone still using the stock keyboard?

I have a iPad and use it every day. I have a s5 and use it everyday. I agree there's a lot I don't use on the s5 ....swiping is not one of them. It's not a gimmick regardless of what u care about lol.

I usually don't download an app for something that gets the job done already. I like the stock keyboard.

Stock Keyboard works for ME. No problems with it.

Re: Anyone still using the stock keyboard?

I use the pre-installed Swype keyboard. Works very well and if you learn all of the gestures it makes it even more user friendly.

Re: Anyone still using the stock keyboard?

I am looking for something new for fast job, but for the time being i am using the stock keyboard.

Re: Anyone still using the stock keyboard?

I love the stock keyboard.. but... and this is weird... i find that if im not looking directly at it, it flickers... like, if im looking at the text being entered, and not the keys as i'm typing I see a flicker in the middle of the keyboard.. the google keyboard doesnt do this .. i think it has somethign to do with the clean lines in the HTC keyboard and the refresh of the screen or something.. bugs the crap out of me though.. so i stick to the goggle one.

Not sure what you mean. I use it on my note 3, and it doesn't lag. The s5 has an even faster processor, so I don't see why it should lag.
