Anyone Using An Airave With Their Epic?

I have had an Airave for over a year because my Blackberry Tour didn't get a great signal in my house. Even though the Epic picks up a stronger signal than my old BB I thought using the Airave would probably help battery life with the Epic. Well, for 2 weeks now Sprint has been tweaking adjustment trying to get it to work properly but most of the time people calling me get a busy signal. Sprint says they have had problems with the Airave and the EVO but not the Epic.

Anyone using the Epic with an Airave successfully?

We have an EVO and an Epic and both are working with our non-3g Airave. Both had issues but after speaking with tech, they had me call *99 from each phone to sync them up. Did you try that?

I'll give that a try when I get home later. Thanks!

OK...either I have a bad Airave or the tech doesn't know what he is doing with the adjustments being made.

I did get the busy signal a few times the other day but otherwise my Epic has worked well with the Airave.

Sometimes my epic takes a bit to recognize the airave and connect. Other than that it has been pretty good.

My Epic works with my Airave too. I have the Airvana that I just got a few days ago, but haven't had any problems. I got mine for the basement though because I can't get a good signal down there. My problem is, when I go all the way up stairs, my airave only gives me one bar of service when I'd get 4 or so without it. How do I get my phone to disconnect manually from the airave?

My history with bb tour is very similar. I switched to the epic a couple of days ago, and I'm surprised how much better the signal strength is on the epic. My airave seems to extend much further to areas of my house and garage where my tour would lose signal. It also seems to hand off better when I leave my house during a conversation. I have made 20 or so calls from house, and I noticed I got a fast busy on my first few calls. Its too early to determine if incoming callers are having this problem, but I appreciate the heads up on the potential problem. One thing I am impressed with the sound quality compared to the tour, but I could start a whole new thread for bb tour issues.

Why would you not just move the airrave up a floor? If the airrave is within range it's going to access it. Using it just for the basement of a fixed location isn't really practical. So move it so it's more central with less fringe area.

Yeah, was just easier having it in the basement because it's easier to hide and keep out of view. Might have to move it and the wifi upstairs I guess. So there's no way just to tell the phone to disconnect from it?

I thought about getting an airave, I opted for a signal booster instead works great!

Call Sprint and Ask to have your Airave turned up!

With my previous Sprint phones (BB and Pre) I had bad coverage unless the Airave was on. However, even with that there were major parts of my house that were still not getting coverage. (And no, I don't have a huge house) I mentioned this to my Sprint rep at work and he had an engineer take a look and turn it up. I was getting great coverage out into my yard and everything. Now, I've been running the Epic for a week and I don't get as many bars, so I am a little concerned too. I have not worked from home yet as that is when I can really tell I have issues. If you have never had it turned up - it doesn't hurt to call. I'm not sure I want it turned up any more otherwise I might start glowing.

Another interesting thing I have noticed is that my Wi-Fi signal is also showing weaker... I'll have to search another thread for that.

Both my Evo and my Epic have worked great with my 3g Airave. Only exceptions is during one of the few Airave outages in the last few weeks.

I always know it's hitting off the Airave by the chime when answering an incoming call or calling out.

I installed Tasker to enable WiFi automatically when my GPS position is my home address, and disable WiFi when I leave that GPS position. That way I'm always using the fastest connection when at home, and am not limited to the Airave data speed.

I have a first gen airave. All airaves have s signal strength controlled by the main offices at Sprint. they can and do turn the signal strength down on occasion. I fiend every four or five months that my signal strength has been cranked down and a call to sprint fixes it. the first tier support sometimes denies that they do this but you get high enough and they know exactly what to do. mine gets turned down to 50% ever so often and I have them crank it to 80%. I think I get hit more often becasue i am in a dense urban area.

I will say from my airave I can tell that the RF performance on Epci is definately not as good as other handsets we have (EVo, TPw Treo Pro) as simply walking away it drops much closer to my home than any of those whcih I can be holding in my other hand.

Also be aware airave will screw up your non aGPS location method, the one enabled by "use wireless networks." On airave it always shows my location about 32 tp 40 miles from my home, centering exactly on the address of the dns record of the ip my provider assigns..
