Anyone using LineageOS?

I'm starting to feel annoyed at some of the bugs in the G6's version of Android, and I'm considering going to LineageOS. I have the H872, so I believe this is possible. On the other hand, LOS isn't optimized for the G6 and I'm wondering if I'd just be swapping one set of admittedly minor bugs for another, perhaps not so minor.

Therefore, I'm asking whether anyone else has tried LOS on their G6 and, if so, how did it work out?

Hello, may I ask what bugs are you having on your G6? Mine is pretty decent so far, so im curious about what you said.

Minor but annoying things:
1. Gboard won't stay; it keeps reverting to the LG keyboard.
2. Music starts playing on speaker after unplugging headphones.
3. Can't turn off "always on" screen.

There are one or two other things, but those are the ones that come to mind. As I say, they're not huge problems.

And to answer my own question, I just found the XDA thread for LOS on the G6 and, judging by what I read there, it's not yet ready for prime time.

I switched to Gboard and it is still active.

I believe it is supposed to work that way. Most people would turn off the music before they unplug their headphones.

I have "always on" turned off as it doesn't work with the OEM folio case and to save on the battery.

Perhaps you should try a factory reset to clear up the 1st and 3rd issue. If that doesn't work you may have a defective device.

PS: I am using the T-Mobile version as well.

A point of clarification. Gboard often disappears after I plug my phone into my car's USB port. It's more rare for it to happen at other times.

The music plays even when I was doing something else on the headphones. For example, I often listen to podcasts using Podcast Addict. If I unplug the headphones, Podcast Addict pauses and Music starts playing music through the speakers, even though I wasn't previously using Music at all. If I close Podcast Addict first, it still happens.

Yeah, a factory reset is an option. It's a headache, but not as much as trying LOS so that's what I'll probably do.

The music part dosen't work that way i unplugged/disconnected various headphones and never had that issue once,it could however be the music player you're using. I was using poweramp couple years back and everytime it did the keep playing music thing, but never with either spotify or the default one.

Imo factory reset is probably the best solution, and easier than trying to mount a new OS on the g6,quicker too.

I dont have any of those issues. Maybe is a manufacturing problem or something like that. Try the factory reset, I hope it works for you.

A factory reset didn't change anything. The problem of Gboard going away and being replaced by LG keyboard seems to be almost always a consequence of plugging the phone into the USB cable in my car, which activates Hands-free Link. And speaking of that, sometimes, but not always, when I unplug the phone from the car USB, the Hands-free notification stays active in the notification panel and cannot be swiped away. The phone has to be reset to get rid of it.

Under "Smart Settings" I have everything turned off. Nevertheless, when I plug in headphones, PowerAmp starts playing whatever it was last playing. There is no setting for this behavior in the app itself.

And as I already described, if I'm listening to a podcast on Podcast Addict, as I often am, if I unplug the headphones the podcast pauses (which is what it's supposed to do) and PowerAmp starts playing through the phone speakers (which it's not supposed to do) and I have to shut it off manually. This occurs even when I haven't used PowerAmp since the last phone reset.

Before we claim the bugs are in the apps, I'd like to point out that I had been using both Podcast Addict and PowerAmp on my OnePlus One (CM then LineageOS, Android 7.1) for three years without seeing these, or any other, issues. So I'm inclined to blame LG's version of Android, which is why I started this thread in the first place.

Another thing I've noticed since last posting: In the car, with the LG G6 connected via Hands-free, the car buttons to advance music to the next track don't work. They always worked before, with my OnePlus One.

1. Weird... Have you tried uninstalling LG Keyboard?
2. Depending on the app, music turns off when I pull the headphones. Are you using the stock app?
3. that's also weird.

maybe you have a defective device?

Yes I finally tried a factory reset. I've discovered that it fixed one of the problems: the always-on problem is gone. The others are still there.
