Anyone waiting for root?

I pre-ordered a pixel 2 and just canceled it. While I was waiting, I picked up a used pixel 1 and decided to root it to install AdAway. Wow. I am completely blown away by it.

Using Android without a content blocker for the few hours I did was pretty miserable. But with AdAway installed, it's a completely different device.

I think I'm going to wait until there is a way to root it before I take the plunge on a new device. Anyone else?

seriously though I had way lots of fun with root way back in the day with my Motorola Photon. After that phone though I was done. Root didn't really let me do things I wanted that I couldn't do with apps.

Mind you things I wanted.

The only thing I want is to be able to install a system - wide adblocker. It's something I've long wanted and never been able to do on a mobile device before. It's awesome. I can even use the official Twitter client without feeling all gross.

I just had a better idea than just canceling... Rather than risk trade-in values going down - which is the reason I bought the Pixel 1 in the first place (got it for $275 and trade-in value is $350) - I decided to order a white one which has a 3-4 week lead time. This way, I’ve got at least 6 weeks for root to come out before I have to give up the freedom of AdAway. Win-win!

I rooted my first...4 Android devices? But no, I don't care at this point.

Yes I will root. IMO its one of the main reasons for getting a google/nexus phone. I won't be switching roms on any sought of regular basis or anything. But google isn't really pure android. so AOSP is true stock android so its always nice to have the option of running a custom rom from time to time.

I was a flashaholic for a few years, but I'm over it. No plans to root, but I'll do it if there's a compelling reason to.

I'm not going to flash a new ROM. I'm done with that but things like being able to edit the hosts config file is what makes Android stand out over iOS for me. Bone stock to bone stock, I prefer iOS.

Would Android Pay or other features be lost if rooted?
Now you use Android pay with root.

I root every device I have owned. I'm looking forward to adaway and tethering. Also use titanium to back everything up.

Seriously. The web is a cesspool without some sort of content blocking.
