Anyone working on rooting the new GB OTA?

Getting root for this update isnt really a problem, "gingerbreak" should work for it as "rageagainstthecage" script/exploit worked for froyo. BUT this update came with a new bootloader, which means until this bootloader is cracked, roms are not possible for those who would like to root.

Ill play around with gingerbreak and see if i can make an easy script or something for it to get root on 2.3 evo's. No promises.

i tried it and nothing after like over 20 minutes. I think the screen went off and then the phone went into sleep mode or something. lets face it i dont think their will be an update as the evo 4g is now end of life as the evo 3d will be iut in a week or so. I say they just gave up on it and dropped it faster then anthony wiener.

Or.... the update to gingerbread has only been out for just over a week. Give the devs a bit of time, As soon as they crack open the new bootloader it will be back to bizz as normal.

Plus got a link or to to the fact that our evo's are end of life??? Just curious as to why you would say it's end of life???

Over on xda the eVo is still the number one and most actively developed device there. New roms come out everyday, older standby roms are update daily even have a brand new "Sprint Lovers" rom that just came out the other day.

Yes the eVo 3d is a quite impressive device. Nice duel core chip, nice big 3d display and cameras and Sense 3.0.

Would love the chip, who wouldn't? But till it gets rooted and some good custom kernels get written for it that dual core clocked at 1.2ghz will be a bit of a battery hog.

I have my eVo overclocked to 1.2 and its nice and stable and underclocked with the governor set to ondemand. I get 14 hours on one charge and my eVo is crazy fast.

Nice big 3d display, neat but.... I get the filling its more of a gimmick than something that will become main stream. Plus I can not wait for all the threads on how crappy that battery life is when using the 3d display.

Yes the eVo doesn't have a 3d display but it dose have a nice crisp 4.3" display, kind of set the standard for most super phones today. And again I see 3d as more of a gimmick than something that will become standard on mobile devices.

As for Sense 3.0.... well if that's your thing awesome. But I have been noticing more and more aosp roms being released and there threads and home forums are grow just as fast.

3D can be turned off, and the 4.3 on the 3D is qHD. A good majority of the evo devs will be switching to the 3D, the 3D WILL be rooted and have great things made for it.

A worthy upgrade IMO and our OG evos will reach end of life shortly after the 3d release. Its the way of the land.

3 huge things you didn't mention was the higher resolution screen (3D or not 960 x 540 will be fantastic), 1 gig of ram (better web browsing and multitasking), and 4 gigs of app space (I think every EVO user is looking forward to that one)

yea the qHD res will look AMAZING!! the 1gb RAM and 4gb memory is a HUGE plus!

Yikes! Just got my EVO 4g and come to see that its updated to the newest software version. So I am stuck outa luck to get this bad boy rooted then is what I am reading. Wonder how long til a new exploit. Love the phone but need to tinker and without root... impossible.

Wish I could downgrade.. I have an Optimus S and I was able to downgrade to the original factory software version. Would this work with the most current OTA for EVO? Returning to STOCK? Obviously a Factory Reset will do nothing for my software version, but force flashing an old software version does sound like it could possibly work.

It will not. I've been trying to go back to 2.2 so I can root, but so far I have had no luck.

LOL @ gingers. Thanks for the reminder - I have a kid coming in September, and I'm slightly worried he could have the ginger gene. No gingers in our family, but you never know!

I too keep hoping I'll see news about a root method, but unless I'm willing/able to do it myself, all I can do is wait patiently (and offer to donate). Hopefully we'll see something before long. I've stopped reading about the latest ROMs since it's just a tease at this point.

I had to send my phone back to HTC for a hardware failure so I unrooted. However, I was curious about the Gingerbread OTA so I applied that and took a look before sending it in. Now I am stuck. I almost cannot stand it. Not having root is killing me :'(.

I am kicking myself everyday. I tried applying the original RUU, but no luck.

How do people live without root?
