I notice that after a long phone call, the screen turns black as you would want, but in order to end the call, you need to do a hard press of the side power button. I rather just soft touch the screen and have it come back to life, like on an iPhone. Anyway to set that??

It should light up as soon as you remove it from your ear. Then just press the red phone/end call button.

I have seen this when using my headphone or the N8 on speakerphone. A couple of solutions:
a) touch the fingerprint sensor and the screen will light up
b) click the power button (don't hold it down) and the screen will light up

I would guess even if your screen goes black you can press the home button at the center bottom location even if you don't see the button to wake it up.

I should have mentioned that I'm on speakerphone.
I'll try later both the fingerprint (still need to set that up for login) and home button on bottom, but it would be better if anypart of screen wakes her up.

Pressing the home button location hasn't worked for me.

Only the fingerprint sensor and power button will turn the screen on.

You can change the settings so that the power button will end a call. That should solve your problem.

On the rare occasion I'm using speaker phone though, I usually just let the call end naturally by waiting for the other party to hang up. I don't use speaker phone very often, but it seems like whenever a call ends, my screen wakes back up.

well some progress, as a long hard sustained Screen press at the screen home button site at bottom wakes her up
but a softer screen touch anywhere does not wake it up
...all from a Speakerphone call (not by ear)

So far my speakerphone calls all keep the screen on while I am talking. Maybe it is a setting under display?

further update, if you reduce the touch screen sensitivity for the home button in the settings, it works even better
