AoD keeps toggling itself to "off"

Been using the S9+ for a few days. I've configured it exactly as my S8+ but for some reason the AoD setting keeps reverting to off position. it happens randomly but enough to be annoying to have to keep turning it back on.
just wondering if anyone else had this issue? I've gone thru the settings and don't see anything obvious. I tried turning auto-brightness off but it also happens in that mode too.
aside from the poor battery life (vs my S8+) so far, this is the only issue I've come across.

Do you have any battery saving mode active? Are you sure no accidental presses of the quick toggle for AOD are happening (try activating the 'prevent input in dark places' option in the Settings)
