So I know that this is tossed around a lot and what not I finally took the plunge and spoke to an AT&T Tech. He wasn't much of help, I asked questions and he wouldn't really give me much info. Until he told me to switch my APN to Broadband. It didn't work at first and I got fed up and closed the chat. I researched the Broadband APN, and it seems to be used on tablets. So I was confused.

I went on again spoke to another tech, he was nice and he helped out more than the last guy did. I told him what APN's I had and he was looking on what to do. He asked for my IMEI number and I guess he switched around my phones. I didn't want that, but he told me to shut it off and turn it back on. After I turned it on it worked and my speeds were higher than a MB. So I was happy. Hopefully it can help out any people who aren't happy with their data speeds.

I just have my phone set as

APN: BROADBAND
MCC: 310
MNC: 410

nothing else. I tried to text myself and it worked I haven't tried a picture yet.

That's really strange I don't understand how that would work. Do you still have the stock APN on the phone. I would think that would revert back to the stock AT&T APN after a few minutes.

79 is a low ping? The highest I've ever had has been 59.

LTE generally pings much lower than HSPA+.

P.S. This is a Nexus 4 subforum, so your results on a device that doesn't run on a GSM network are irrelevant.

I may not be using my DNA on GSM, but it most certainly does run on GSM.

We know your phone is capable of to run on GSM, but what he is talking about is the results based on THIS thread. OP's results are from HSPA+ on ATT which the Nexus 4 is only compatible with, not LTE, thus our pings will totally differ.

UPDATED!

Well the information on the APN setting BROADBAND seems to be only for tablets, Android's and iPads. I received text messages, so I tried sending a picture from my girlfriends telephono and I never received it. So I put the usual MMS information and I sent it again tonight and it worked. So for more info I guess I can write the new updated settings. Also, I do believe the phone needs to be activated on the AT&T systems for the APN to work. So you might have to call or chat with them on there. I know my speeds aren't the best, but I can only imagine when I get to LA. We'll see... As I said I hope this will help out someone else.

Name: AT&T HSPA+
APN: BROADBAND

MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310

APN Type: Default, mms, supl

Did NOT work for me.
Using a nexus 4 on AT&T using iPhone 4S unlimited data plan.
Used settings exactly as shown above (including caps where listed like Default)

The only change was I named mine AT&T BROADBAND to not have to re enter my previous settings. Good thing because with these settings I didn't get any connection.

Didn't work for me either using my sim card from my iPhone. This is probably because my account is setup to use the iPhone.

Some of the modified APN Settings work with certain iphone plans... The one that was posted a while back is the one I have been using and my sim is from a iphone 4s. It works pretty much without any problems and I get fast speeds... But it's not great doing voice and data at the same time so was hoping for maybe something new to tweak it more. oh well.

I know its kind of an old thread but I just wanted to confirm that, using these "broadband" apn settings provided, I was able to take my microSIM out if my 1st gen iPad and pop it into my Nexus 4 and get HSPA+ data. Speeds aren't mind blowing where I'm at but the point is that it works. And nicely I might add. So thrilled right now!

Yes of course it works. I have an AT&T data sim that I sometimes use for my iPhone 4S. I also have a T-Mobile data sim that I use in my Nexus 7 that will work in my Nexus 4 and iPhone 4s.
