App Compatibility

It seems like there is a small percentage of apps that is either not supported and not working properly. I ran into few of those myself. But they are not a deal breaker apps. My take is: those who ran into app that is not working right on Mate 9 should contact the developer for that app. My understanding is, there might be some specific function that is not compatible with the CPU uses in Mate 9. I would assume that the same problem app will have issue with Honor 8 as well. I am hoping that the app developer is aware and will fix the compatibility issue with this CPU soon with the up coming update.

Is anyone having trouble with the Hulu app. I app will load. I can select the show but the video will not play. I have already cleared the clear cache and data in the app. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I returned the Mate 9 and got the Mate 9 Pro off eBay. Hulu app works like a champ on this phone.

It's really strange how this issue impacts a handful of phones and yet on most of them, they work fine. Weird.

Dont want to start a new conversation so I'll jump in this one.

Did anyone ever figure out whats causing the US variant to be "incompatible" with some apps? Theres 2 apps I cant install on the mate 9 but can on other devices running the same Play store version and nougat. I did a Factory Reset and they both show as available to install but without warning they revert back to "your device is not compatible". Tried uninstalling play store and services updates but they remain incompatible.

The Hulu problem is also an issue but I know I can call Hulu to get it working. Im debating keeping this phone or not. The way Huawei messes with the software worries me about future compatibility issues.

I believed it has to do with your Settings - > Display - > View Mode. It has Small, Medium and Large. Some app will shows incompatible depending on what's your setup. That setting is essentially the DPI setting. I had the same issue with Amazon app being incompatible after changing the View Mode. What I did to fix the problem was to change it back to the default Large, install Amazon app and change my View Mode to Medium and the Amazon app still works. Just no updates I guess because once I changed it to Medium, Play Store is saying the app is incompatible...

Hope this helps

It seems that has something to do with it. I had posted the question on another forum yesterday and someone mentioned the dpi issue. Below is how things unfolded which made no sense.

Well I was hoping that would fix it but it didn't. I set the display view to large, rebooted. That didn't work so I cleared the play store and play services cache and that didn't do it either. Lastly I cleared the play store and play services data and rebooted and that didn't work either.

I'm not sure what's causing it since both the play store and play services are the exact same versions on my mate 9 and axon 7.

Edit: OK this is just stupid. I put the view back to small and font back to normal (where I've had it this whole time except to try the above fix) and now the app allowed me to install it. I don't know what fixes it but at least it's working lol.

I had this same issue and clearing play services and play store setting display to large seems to help but because i changed the display before rebooted still couldnt but then i clear the cache and data reboot and then it worked so i cant say for sure which one fixed it but one did

Yeah I haven't had the issue since so no way to figure it out but I do believe it's definitely tied to the DPI. Still no clue what order solves it though.

If it was mine I would
Do a Huawei backup to a SD card then do a factory reset and see if it works after the reset I m

If that doesn't work pack it up and let Amazon send you a new one.

Ugh. I did a factory reset. AMEX won't install - incompatible. Hulu shows up fine.

Ok.... Whatever... I cleared Play Store and Play Services data, rebooted, searched Play store for "AMEX" and the app wasn't there. I searched for "AMEX apk" and it showed up at the top as an ad. Installed fine.

Whatever. It works.
