App downloads without Google Talk

I'm a definite noob, so laugh at an idiot:

Rooted the phone successfully, dowloaded Uninstaller for Root, and proceded to either delete/freeze several stock apps. Everything was working fine, so I wanted to get a few apps downloaded before I did a backup. Every app I tried to download just stayed at "starting download". I did some troubleshooting, and came to find out that you have to have Google Talk in order for the Market to download apps. Unfortunately, this was one of the stock apps I deleted/froze as I would never use it. Can anyone help me retrieve, or reload Google Talk to my phone? If it's not possible, what are my options for downloading apps? Do I need to replace the phone instead? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Download this file, unzip it on your computer, place the apk on your SD, and use Root Explorer to move it to "/system/app".

Any file Explorer that will allow browsing of root directories will do, like ASTRO.

Hmmm, was this type of app a stock app? If so, I must have deleted it too. I don't see any app of that type on my phone. Sorry for being such an idiot, LOL.

Understood, however, I cannot download ANYTHING until I get Google Talk back on the phone :(.

Cool! Thanks Rag, I appreciate all the help.

I assume that I also move the apk for ASTRO onto my phone? Then the app should show up on my phone and then I use it to move Talk.apk to where you stated?

Yes, put the ASTRO apk onto your SD card. I believe using the stock file explorer (MyFiles) should let you install it on your phone from there.

Then you can use ATRO to move the talk.apk to /system/app and you should be good to go.

Man, I didn't want to bother you anymore, but still have one issue. I've got both APKs on my SDcard, I have installed Astro. I can use Astro to get to SDcard/Talk, long press and choose edit/move. Then I can navigate to system/app, but when I get there, the paste option is greyed out. No matter how I try it, the paste function is never available. Have I done something wrong?

Are you sure i nuked google talk long time ago and am able to load apps from the market am on froyo samsung epic...

Well, this is what I found when I was troubleshooting. This was the most obvious reason, as I was downloading apps just fine until I removed Talk:

Maybe because I'm on Eclair?

To use the market you need the sync adapter, the Google apps framework, the market apk, and Gtalk.

I can make you a flashable zip if you have ClockworkMod Recovery.
I'm no Samsung pro, but couldn't NunciO download and flash the tinyGapps.zip for Eclair via clockwork?

NunciO, if you deleted a bunch of things you might need back, often it's better to reflash and start over :p In this case you have to make /system/app read-write before you can copy talk back into it.

Again, pretty new here, and I understand I screwed up pretty good. How do you make the /system/app read-write? And no, I do not have ClockworkMod Recovery.

Or how can I start over?

Cripes, I'm so ignorant. I go to the cmd promt and type adb shell, but it doesn't recognize it. Thanks for everyone's help, but I think I'm gonna get a new phone tomorrow, and start fresh, being SURE to back up before I take any stock apps off.
