App Icons Different From Pixel 2 XL

I'm at a loss as to how the adaptive icons on my pixel 3 XL seem to be terrible compared to my Pixel 2 XL. See the images. For example, look at Boomerang or Countable. How do I get the icons to display their normal shape instead of that horrible circle. Neither phone has developer mode enabled and both are running Android Pie. I'm very confused as to the reason for the difference.

Seems Boomerang still hasn't been updated to an adaptive icon. Try changing the icon shape under home settings.

Try a different Launcher, and Icon Pack of your choice. There's TONS of great Icon Packs to choose from in the Store!

What has me confused is that my 2 XL and my 3 XL are both running Android Pie with the native launcher. I get that Google locked down adaptive icons all the way back in 8.0 and I also get that plenty of apps have yet to adopt to that standard (ironically Google own Hangouts is one of them) but I'm at a loss to see any reason why my 2 and 3 would have different icons.

I noticed on the 3XL compared to the 2XL that some of my icons are smaller and have white borders. it's not an issue for me or anything but I just thought it was weird and it doesn't apply to all icons. Some have the full icon

Re: Anyone coming from 2XL notice some Icons changed?

yeah, i read somewhere that the pixel launcher will force all icon to be uniformed. the white boarder icons are developer who hasn't updated their icon to adaptive ones yet. I am actually using the pixel launcher now instead of Nova. One of the reason that kept me away for Pixel launcher was because if the app hasn't updated their icons yet, it will stay as square. made it looks very ugly. Love that they are all the same shape now.

Personally I like that all icons are now of the same shape and look uniform when compared to earlier. Understand that it would have been nice if they gave you option to choose what you want.

I guess if you prefer that unfortunately you have to switch to a different launcher like Nova where you have full control.

The launchers are different between Pixel 2 and 3.
That's why they are different.
