Ever since the Marshmallow update to my M8 (HK) I have to re-grant permissions to my apps when I re-start or power off/on my phone...Isn't this abnormal?

That shouldn't happen. Do you have any 3rd party security apps installed?

I'm having the same problem. No 3rd-party security apps installed either. It's really annoying. The worst part is that some apps aren't asking me to grant them permissions again and they stop working correctly.

Yep..same thing....Also ringtone and notifications are never what I save when I restart or power off/on my phone..m

Marshmallow killed my macrodroid home button screen off function. It will turn off the screen, but the fingerprint scanner will go right to the pin lock because it doesn't have body scan permissions. And no option to grant it

I have thanks, I emailed the app developer and he said samsung locked it down. Kinda like theme icons won't work with Nova. Nova said it's a Sammy thing

Hi,

I had the same issue and stumbled upon the solution by mistake.
I tried hard reset, and it did help for a while, but then the issue started again.
Bottom line - the issue was with the news reader app - News Republic.
The default version worked fine, but an update caused the issue.
I know this because i uninstalled the update, and restarted the phone and everything was OK.
A couple of days later, my phone was left unattended with the WiFi on, and the update re-installed itself. A reset showed the problem returned.
Now the app is forcefully disabled. I can also testify that battery life improved drastically since. I have noticed the battery life got worse after updating to Marshmallow.

Hope this helps someone who is looking for a solution to this extremely annoying problem...

Has this continued to work for you - no more app permission issues w/ News Republic disabled?
thanks

Thanks, that worked for me

I have had the loss of permissions problem after restart for a while. It has persisted across multiple hard resets, and even multiple devices! I am working on a theory. For anyone here who has had this issue, did you encrypt your device? I'm trying to find a common thread, as clearly every device hasn't had this issue, but many have. Any input is appreciated.

I've had News Republic disabled from the outset, so that wasn't it for me.

My theory is that it's simply badly implemented. Sometimes I reboot the device and have to configure the permissions all over again, for no reason.

There goes that theory. I wonder where the bug is? HTC Marshmallow under some specific circumstances (particular settings)? Or all Marshmallow devices in some specific instances? Hard to figure this one out. It seems that the vast majority of reports are for HTC devices, but I saw mention of a Samsung device somewhere. That could be a fluke though. It seems like many M8s, M9s, and even M10s have this issue, but obviously not all of them, or we'd have hundreds of posts. I figure it must be something somewhat obscure in the configuration that's exposing the bug, and it 100% shouldn't be an app. After all, apps shouldn't be able to alter permissions in the OS. This is important to me, because I'm weighing whether my next device should be something other than HTC.

Hi,

Update: 12-2018:
Well, I thought that this had solved my problem BUT IT DID NOT. -Zeek5
