App Update Problem

I was away from a wifi signal for a few days, took my 7 with me for reading from the book reader app. In notifications, I noticed it telling me some apps had updates, which baffles me as not being connected, I have no idea how it knew. Obviously something going on I don't know about. Anyway, by the time I got home, there was around 20 of them. I started the updates, or tried to. Each one seemed to download the update, showed it as in the process of installing it, but then gave me a Package Invalid notice. They're still sitting there in the queue waiting, but several tries just give the same result. Out of curiosity, I tried to install a new app. Same result, Package Invalid. Can anyone enlighten me as to possible causes? In case it bears any relevance, while I was away, I ended up not even using it much to read, as I kept getting a Not Connected To Network message popping up, sometimes at a couple of minute intervals, sometimes as often as every ten seconds. I got this with the wifi switch on and off.

Try going to your app drawer, select download manager, then app info and clear the cache. See if it works then.

By the way, what are these updates for - apps you already have installed? Have you tried going to the Play Store and updating from there?

Yes, the apps were from the Play Store. Doing as you suggested worked fine though, cleared the cache and tried again and off they went. Cheers for that.
