Apparently the retailers will do a credit check...

I'm nearly certain that they will do a credit check. I ran into the same issue with the Galaxy TAB where the Verizon store manager insisted in order to get the TAB I had to get a credit check. This is a pain in the ass (and expensive) for people like me who freeze their credit for security purposes - especially when no one at BB or Verizon can seem to figure out which credit bureau they use.

This is getting ridiculous. I returned my iPad 3G to get Xoom and this is how Verizon is doing business?

I hate Apple, but you gotta admit they had a much better selling strategy for iPad. Christ, we are paying $800 for a device and we still have to jump through hoops for that kind of money? Looks like I'm going to hold off for a few weeks in hope that Verizon drops this credit check crap. If I was paying $500-$600, fine do a check. But at $800? wow....But I am still buying it, :D.

And, if it didn't matter if you had a good credit or a bad credit, what would be the point of doing it? Seems to me if they will do it, they will force those with bad credit to pay some kind of a deposit, that's how most companies do.

Could it be that credit check will be done only for those signing up for a 2 year contract?
