apple ear buds with mic

I bought apple ear bud with mic. I have a galaxy s3 and I cannot get the mic to work

Welcome to Android Central! iPhones use a slightly different headphone jack standard, so multi-function earphones or headphones (with mics and inline controls) will often be incompatible with non-iPhone devices.

Where did you buy it from?

It should work, I have headphones with mics designed for Apple and they all work on android at least for mic. The volume up and down won't work though.

Okay so I just tried my wife's stock iPhone 5s headphones and the mic function worked on my note 3 as well as the play and pause function. Volume function doesn't work

Yeah. Mine from my old iPhone 5 don't work at all. I mean I can hear out of them but the volume keys and the mic don't work at all. The only thing that works is the play/pause button.
