Apple getting rid of the lightning port

Brand loyalty is real. It's stupid but it's a thing,
I don't think it's that strong on the Android side of things. Sure, iPhone lovers are unlikely to switch if they lose wired charging, but there are so many options on the Android side I strongly suspect a lot of people might think twice about purchasing a new phone that also requires them to purchase a new set of peripherals for charging.

I'd never buy Apple, but in terms of the question I just bought a Samsung S10+ a few weeks back with a wireless charger and I have yet to connect anything to the port. If I want to move large amounts of data, I'd just use the sdcard(something missing in Apple), otherwise I'm fine with wifi transfers. So really it comes down to the reliability of a cable charge vs wireless - how often would either of those fail? That's the main question. I do think with every year connectors will become fewer and fewer and they will become as redundant as a serial port.

USB C is superior to the Lightning connector (faster charging and data transfer). Why bother scrapping cable charging, causing immense consumer dissatisfaction when they could simply replace Lightning with USB-C, which is already on their MacBooks and iPads and superior?

Because "Apple."

I hope that they don’t think that this is going to work just because their decision to scrap the headphone jack didn’t go insanely bad for them. Bluetooth earphones were and are just as good as traditional ones...plus you could always get a cheap converter (dongle).

With cable vs wireless charging, cable is faster, more versatile and arguably as convenient (try wireless charging in a car or anywhere other than on a still flat surface). Wireless charging is still quite slow...plus there is no converter.

As for potential revenue to make from it...wireless chargers (especially the good ones) are already made by everybody. Heck, I don’t think Apple even makes a wireless charger ever since AirPower was cancelled.

Completely agree with you. Furthermore, wireless charging is a cool concept but you can't use your phone wherever you want to. For example, in bed. Wired charging will always be faster. when I used to have my older Galaxy s8, I bought the Samsung wireless charging stand for it. It was an okay idea. However, I didn't really see the fun of wirelessly charging my phone after a few weeks or a month of actually using the charging stand.
