I would like to download some apps to my NC but I don't want to have to root it. I don't want to screw up my warenty. Is there anyplace where I can download twitter, facebook gmail and maybe some study apps like studystack.com that I won't have to root my Nook?

If you install one of the options onto your sdcard you can boot from the card without voiding your warranty. It runs slick as snot for the most part unless you get a wacky card. I have CM7 on a 8gig sdcard for my machine and it's working great. I used the process outlined in this post [ROM][CM7] Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards. with updater - xda-developers. You'll need a card, a usb reader for your card, and a few programs on your windows machine to make it work.

win32 diskimager release .1 to burn the img file to your card
and miniTool partition wizard if you need to adjust the size of your 4th partition

It's not difficult at all the only bump is the timing to get it to boot into recovery so it will begin the copy process. You have to hold the buttons down for 6 seconds and trust the timing as it doesn't have much feedback unless you hold to long and the screen shuts off.

Advantages of CM7 are many but games, flash for browsers, choice of more advanced book readers, access to all the apps and bluetooth support are probably the star points.
