Apps "lose" information when in background (file explorers return to starting location, ...)

I'm not really sure how to describe this, but I can just give a few examples:

I've tried two file explorers and neither of them would remember what folder I was in.

Neither whatever the default audio ap nor chrome would remember what time audio was if I paused it, but google play did remember where audio was.

If I leave directions open on google maps, it will return to the default google maps screen, and I have to research for directions.

How do I fix these things? I've searched for an answer online, but I haven't even seen anyone else mentioning the same problem, so I'm not sure I even know the words to search.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone do you have? How much RAM does it have? (I'm asking about system RAM, not internal storage space.) The ability for an app to remain paused in the background depends on a few factors, like how much RAM is available, as well what other apps you're opening and how the app itself is coded. In addition, if you have certain power-saving modes turned on, or 3rd party "RAM booster" apps installed, that can also cause apps to close completely in the background.

An Honor 7 Lite with 2 GB RAM. Also, Android version 7.0, if that matters.

No power saving modes or "RAM booster" apps installed or turned on.

Is there at least some way that I can prioritize google maps with ram?

Huawei's tends to use aggressive RAM management in its phones by default. Look in the system settings and see if there's an option to "Protect" apps from this. It might be in the section for Power or for Memory.

I can only find settings to keep apps from being killed while they are running in the background, but I'm not sure what "power-intensive prompt" is, so I turned it off. I don't think that it will do anything, but I'll see.

Thanks for the help. It seems really weird to me that this would be a problem in something like google maps, but I guess I'll just keep being lost on the metro where google maps refuses to find directions for some reason.
