I tried searching the forum but I couldn't find a list of apps safe to turn off. Anyone here know which ones are safe?

The thing about disabling an app is that you can't do any damage. If the phone starts to act funny, just re-enable the app. Just be careful with apps that are clearly system apps. Also, don't disable Google Play Services or Download Manager.

The search terms you want are bloat and bloatware and also look on XDA forum as well...

Even if you did, you can easily re enable it. System apps can't be disabled stock anyway

I was thinking of apps like Download Manager, which can be disabled, and has been the cause of problems installing other apps ...

Please excuse any typos or autocorrect derps.

So I guess the best way to do this is to shut one or two off at a time, wait and see how the phone reacts and move on to other apps to shut off.

I am in the process of making my Note 4 self aware.

Here is everything I have turned off with no issues.

Yeah, most is bloat and some are apps I just don't use. I don't use Gmail because of the tiny font so I stick with the stock Email app. I don't use the messaging app because I prefer Textra.

I've not had a single issue yet and everything is smooth. I might circle back later and disable some more but for now I am happy.

I really wish Samsung would stop including all the garbage apps. If users want it let them download it and if they don't want it then it's not there from the start. I also wish they'd flex their muscles a little like Apple does and not allow the carriers to add the bloat.

Can't you uninstall some of those?

I'd be careful with uninstalling some stuff as if it creates an issue you may not be able to get the app back without doing a factory reset. Disabling works just fine. Sure they take up space but an SD card can easily solve that issue.

Wow the at&t version makes my t-mo look like a gpe device lol

Yeah AT&T loves to pile on the junk. It's unbelievable how much junk they put on phones. They must know that most don't use it yet they keep wasting time and money on them. It's odd to say the least.

Apps that can be disabled are preinstalled, and not uninstallable, unless you're rooted. Conversely, an app that can be uninstalled can't be disabled--all you can do is uninstall it.

Tmobile only added like 3 apps, damn.

And even those 3 are very useful.

Forgive me, but I'm a new user. How do I disable apps as opposed to deleting them? I know how to delete apps I have added, but is it possible with pre-installed apps?

I didn't download them, they came pre installed and can't be deleted..

I don't use either of the services so why would I keep them active?

How have you disabled some of them (like Messages in particular)? I can force stop Messages, but I don't get the option to turn it off.

I use Textra and selected it as my Default Application for messaging.

Make sure you have another messaging app set as default and you should then be able to disable it.
