Apps stopping during screen lock. LG G4 Sprint

Noob here. So, I own an LG G4 on Sprint. I find that whenever downloading or updating apps through Google Play the apps stop or pause when the screen is off. Now, I do have the setting that allows the Wifi to run regardless whether the screen is off. I did do a little digging around prior to this post and found some connectivity issues from other users with other phones. So, is this issue a common one? Hardware? Software? Currently running Lollipop 5.1, ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! This issue is persistent, and would love to have the screen off for power saving purposes while downloading/updating apps.
