Apps that are safe to remove once rooted

I pulled MobileAP.apk, VisualVoiceMail.apk, VVMService.apk... waiting for problems to start but so far it's ok.

I didn't get a response in my other thread so I thought I would try here...

I'm trying to remove the Daily Briefing app. I removed SamsungWidget_FeedAndUpdate (.apk and .odex). It still shows up in my list of Samsung list of widgets though. I also see the Daily Briefing icon too. Anyone know the file name?

InfoAlarm.* for anyone else that's interested...

I have just renamed The InfoAlarm app and so far so good, It has only been 17 minutes. the screen was a little slow to respond but it kicked in after a few seconds. I have renamed a lot of bloat-ware under Root Manager (awesome app) i was wondering if i could just move my renamed apps in root manager to MY SD card or do i have to remove .OLD and then move. Thanks again

I used TiB Pro to "freeze" all of the bloatware, seems to be working fine. But has anyone had success taking AllShare and the TW Launcher off if your using Launcher Pro or ADW?

And what works better to use TiB or Root Explorer and CWM?

I renamed all the files on the first page to .old but VZ Navigator still shows up in my apps list, why is that?

Also, I bought the pro version of Titanium Backup and used the freeze feature. It does do the job and I am pleased with it but it sure would be nice if it made the icon disappear. Is there an easy way of hiding the icons or do I have to rename them in Root Explorer?

* I still haven't figured out how to get rid of VZ Navigator from showing up even if I rename the file. Are others experiencing this as well?

I've been using launcher pro (before i was rooted) to hide the bloat from my app drawer. I've renamed the apps so I wonder if I "unchecked" them, they'd show up in my app drawer. I'm going to test this later.

I stand corrected, I just rooted my wife's phone and her icons disappear when I freeze them. Gotta go figure out what's up with mine. So Titanium Backup is a super program, it's me with the problem :)

Instead of renaming my apps, I just moved them to a folder on my SD card. That will make it easier to move them back when Froyo comes out.

I just did it using Root Explorer, all you have to do is long press on the file you want to move and then move it from /system/app to your sdcard. It was pretty easy to do, just moving the file and the corresponding .odex takes some time.

Don't forget too that Root Explorer has the multi-select option. So you don't have to move one file at a time. Didn't find that out until after moving a half dozen or so files though. But it makes it easier/faster to multi-select, then move to the SD card. Quicker to make back too once 2.2 comes out for us.

Thanks I didn't know that, I'll remember that for when I have to move them again. I made a folder called bloatware in my sd card and put them all there.

And also does anyone know if it's safe to remove the tw launcher if you have a 3rd party launcher?

It's super duper easy to do with the adb program that's part of the 1 click root; you can write a script to move all the apps, and then alter the script a bit to use to move them back when froyo comes out. No need to remember what you moved where, and no need to fumble around with the gui on the phone, its all done from windows.

I'd add MobileAp to the list of items safe to remove. The mobile 3G app is useless now that Wireless Tether is working.

ok new to rooting. i have my phone rooted and i have tried all the file managers to rename the files on the list. after i add the .OLD to the end of the file name it goes back to the apps list and its still there. like i said i tried numerous file managers its either that or says insufficient permissions ( i believe thats what it said). also i tried moving the files to sd card but it just adds a copy of the file to the sd card and the file is still there in the apps list. am i doing something wrong here or what?
