Apps that are safe to remove once rooted

how do u get to where u can change the names of the apps and stuff phone is successfully rooted but dont know where to go or how to do anything else

You will need a File Manager that can use root. Super Manager is free and works well for me.

You will need to set it to utilize root access then use the File Explorer; Set to r/w (Read and Write) - Without it you can only view and not change anything.

The Explorer will open in the SD card.

You will need to Back up a level and look in system/app folder for the .apk files..

Long press on the files will give you options.. (Rename) That is how I have utilized this.

I also have Titanium Backup (pro) - and can "freeze" or lock some files so that they will not be accessable by the OS.
Hope that helps.

Super Manager is the best. I like the kill widget it comes with. Don't need to use Super App Kill anymore!

What I did was back up the entire "app" folder onto my sdcard (or to anywhere else for that matter) and deleted whatever apps I didn't want on the phone.

I personally think this way is the fastest way to to clean it up. If anything goes wrong just copy the files back onto the app folder.

I deleted the Blockbuster app right before I found this thread (of course). Would downloading that app from the market bring my phone back to
compliance" for the OTA integrity check?

I tried doing that with Skype but the one in the Market didn't work. The proprietory Skype that came preinstalled sucks cuz you can't use it to make calls via Wi-Fi.

So I guess it might be the same case.

Here's the Blockbuster App that was preinstallated.

Question:

If I hard reset my phone after rooting it and deleting bloatware will that restore everything including the bloat?

I have to ask: What do you mean by "Hard Reset"?

If you mean a factory wipe?

To restore everything you will need to flash a backup of everything prior to your deletions (either in Ti Backup or a nandroid back up).. that will not unroot or you can flash back to stock via Odin See here:
[ODIN] Full DI01 ODIN Package - xda-developers

The Odin package in the link will unroot and put it all back in..
Hope this helps..

once you get into flashing new roms (which i highly reccomend) you wont worry about that any more. i do the build your own from sonofskywalker and the only apps i have are the ones i want. when it comes to the 2.2 update i will just flash my phone back to stock and then reroot after. i only have a couple of apps i dont want to loose the data from and i will titanium back those up. i have flashed my phone so many times i can pretty much go from new rom to back the way i had it in about 15 minutes.

First post. I followed the instructions here to do the one button root so I could use the Barnacle hotspot on my Facinate. No problems and Barnacle works fine but now my phone eats my battery. It does this with nothing extra running at all and Barnacle shut off. Also, even with Barnacle shut off and wireless off, Barnacle shows up when searching for a connection with a laptop. I have also frozen all the crap apps with TB pro but it still seems to suck battery. I wouldn't complain, but it drains the battery at least three times faster than it used to. I can't make it a whole day anymore.

Any ideas?

Bloat freezer in the market is my own app and another option for freezing the bloat. Just click on the app and freeze it, that simple, another click to defrost.

Whatever you do, like cory said, dont delete, rename manually or freeze with Bloat Freezer or Titanium Backup Premium

After the DL09 I can't seem to rename the big red bloat by adding .old to the end of the apk. I did re-root and have superuser access. I was able to do this before the update. Am I the only one with this problem or am I a moron doing something wrong?

I am using Bloat Freezer (which by the way BAD @$$ for a noob like me). I was going through the list and I have my voicemail going to google voice. So can I freeze the Voicemail and the vvmService files?

alright, I've got root and have removed the apps that Cory listed in the first post in this thread and the phone is quite a bit snappier but how do I get the super high quadrant scores that I've seen?

i cant find the files do rename/move to sd card
i used the one click do i need to download something else

the files to rename/remove are in the first post in this thread

i know that they were but was not able to find them on the phone but was able to find them and rename them but not able to move them and i am using super manager another app that is free that i can move them

sorry, I misuderstood your question. There's a checkbox in the Settings section of Super Manager that says Use Root or something like that.

You have to check that then when you go into the files it asks about enabling r/w ... say yes to this and you should be good to go.
